a great article on GD and the glucose challenge test

Mine's coming up on Monday and I wanted to read up on whether I should change my diet this upcoming weekend or not. I found this article that really explains more than I ever knew before so I wanted to share:

In the article it says this regarding my original question: Occasionally women want to know 'how to pass' the tests. This is a poor attitude. If you have gestational diabetes, you need to know it, and you need to know it based on your normal habits. Don't try and throw the results--this is very important. Untreated severe gestational diabetes can occasionally cause perinatal death, while treated and well-controlled gestational diabetes is not generally a serious risk. If you have gd, you NEED to know it and take some extra precautions. These are not generally as difficult as most people fear. Don't let your fear keep you from doing the best possible course of action for your baby.

The more I read, the more I seem to agree. My dad's a doctor (not an OB though) and he said the same thing to me about not changing my diet and why it's important to make sure your results are accurate. Yes, I'd rather pass it the first time, but for the health of me and my child, I agree it's important to get proper results.

I guess I just wanted to post this since it's something I've been thinking about a lot lately and hope it can be helpful to others too.

You don't want to fake a test and then have something wrong down the road.
