a newborn that doesnt sleep
i want to kill myself. DS barely naps through the day after feedings, cries half the day. i've literally spent my days on the couch holding him or rocking him in the glider.
he's not in any pain from what i can see.
ive never seen a newborn NOT sleep as much as this one. durnig the nite im lucky if i get a 3 1/2 hour stretch out of him between feedings.

Maybe your little guy just wants to be close to you. Today I used the Baby Bjorn for the first time & was able to get so much more done. He was very content in there - slept most of the time while I cleaned. It's worth a try.

It's actually pretty easy...I was nervous though putting him in it at first by myself until I got the hang of it. I hope your DS loves it. I felt a renewed sense of freedom with it.

Re: a newborn that doesnt sleep
Im no expert...but if he is crying maybe he is in pain. Reflux and gas is a very common problem in newborns. I would try some mylicon, breathe, and know that it will get easier.

the mylicon made things worse I think. I gave them to him the last time on thursday after a feeding and he had a total screaming fit after i gave it. So i've been trying to go with out it and he seems ok not using them. (we are going for a GI test wednesday to check for reflux).
I really dont think he's in pain b/c the crying isnt constant. He stops when he gets picked up or held..it seems though he has a hard time getting comfortable and is restless. I can tell he wants to sleep but he fights it so bad..LOL. Im not sure what else i can do to make him comfortable or to get him to sleep easier.

Re: a newborn that doesnt sleep
Maybe we can sit and cry together. I actually cried WITH my DS for the 1st time today. I bawled my eyes out.
He refuses to nap during the day unless he is in my arms, and today, not even that worked.
I'm not sure what to do. I'm tired of hearing my mom tell me i'm spoiling him, saying its not possible at this age (6 weeks) while she tells me to syop listening to the books and listen to people with experience.
Sunday night was particularly painful, for some reason he woke up every hour. Last night he went back to "normal", waking every 3.5-4 hours. Last week we had 3 days in a row where he slept for 6 hour stretches. Not sure what happened - maybe it was a dream?
Sorry, no advice. Just letting you know I'm feeling your pain.

Re: a newborn that doesnt sleep
Have you tried swaddling him? We swaddled the girls for bedtime and used the swing or bouncer for naps. He may be startling himself as he is trying to go to sleep. Definitely try the baby bjorn. I know it may be hard now but there will be a time when they do not want to be held and you will be sad about that

Re: a newborn that doesnt sleep
I found that DS didn't love the Bjorn. He like a softer wrap like the Moby. It put him right to sleep. He was so cozy. And 3 1/2 hours at a clip is prety much all you are going to get at this point. I usually only got 2 hours!! DS didn't sleep more than four hours until he was 3 months. It is so tough the first few weeks but, it'll get better. Are you swaddling? That might help. Hang in there. You'll get through it and it will all get better soon.
