a promotion you really don't want??
what are your thoughts on applying for a position at your current job, where the pay wouldn't be that much more, and more stress?
the only good thing about it, is that it is the next "rung" on your career ladder and you'd have to do it eventually?

how long would you have to hang on that rung until you could move up?

Re: a promotion you really don't want??
I have been in that situation, took the promotion and realized I was content being one of the "little guys".
I found out I so do not like managing other employees, and even if they were to offer me thousands of dollars more per year it's not worth the stress and aggravation.
I took a de-motion when I went back to work after my maternity leave last year and have been 100x more happier with my decision.

Re: a promotion you really don't want??
I just gave up a promotion because it was too stressful and I went to 4 days a week from FT. I love my boss and he was great to work for, and he loved having me as a manager, but for me the work-life balance was outta whack. I needed to spend more time at home with my kids thus I asked to go to 4 days a week and to step down from group manager. I am SOOO glad I did it! I have plenty of time to work in the future, but my kids are growing like weeds. I have no doubt there will be many opportunities to be in management and leadership positions later on so I don't feel sad about stepping down.
