Work Related Quesion - If you were passed up for a promotion, would you resign?
random Q, if you were in line for a promotion and your boss hired someone from the outside to be your new boss, how would you handle it?

I didn't vote bc depending on the circumstances I would either give two weeks notice or start looking for another job (assuming of course I felt certain I was deserving of the promotion).
How it was handled, how I was notifiied, etc... would determine whether I stayed on until I found another job or gave two weeks notice immediately. Also would depend on personal finances. Unless I was being harassed or something illegal was going on - I would always give 2 weeks and not just walk out.

well it sounds like your answer would be to look for another job.
this Q is based on the fact that you were promised a promotion.

Re: Work Related Quesion - If you were passed up for a promotion, would you resign?
In my profession....I have basically decided I would NOT want to manage any of our places anyhow.....so just gimme my paycheck!
IF....and this is a BIG if......they were to ever choose to open a new place.....and they are looking.....then I might want it depending on where....but I would want the opportunity for it and they do know that too.

If you showed interest in that position - I would give two weeks notice and leave.

Giving two weeks notice sounds just fine on a LIF post. In reality you need to have a new job to start before you quit. Odds are if you are working to begin with your family needs the income...I know that is true in my home.

Didn't vote because it my answer is not a poll option.
Most likely I would work that much harder to get the promotion the next time around. BUT it all depends on how things are going at the job in general. If I knew that was my only hope and things are going to go downhill from here - I would start looking for another job.

Re: Work Related Quesion - If you were passed up for a promotion, would you resign?
I answered that i would start looking for another job, because in every job up until my current position, that would be the case. However, with my current circumstances I think I would either quit on the spot or just collect my paycheck for a little while longer, then quit. DH and I will be TTC soon enough so this would just be a little bit of bonus extra time off.

I didn't read "in line for" to mean that the person had been promised the job. I read it more like "up for," so the promotion was a possibility. If promised the job and then I didn't get it, yes, I'd look for another job. Though - if I could afford to do so and thought in my field I could get a job pretty quickly- I would probably give 2 weeks and quit.

I wouldn't resign because you would just be shooting yourself in the foot.
I would, however, start looking for another job. That would really burn me up.
