A quick stomach virus question...
We are dealing with our first one--- I spoke to the DR this AM and they gave us some guidelines for hydration, when to call, etc. My question is, do you try to maintain your DC normal schedule (naps, bedtime) when they are sick like this? Do they sleep a lot more or less?? Thanks!

Re: A quick stomach virus question...
We just finished with a nasty virus (rotavirus that led to a hospital stay) so I can tell you that for us....DD slept a lot more. Just keep a careful watch though b/c excessive sleeping/and being lethargic can also be a sign of dehydration. If you are getting some fluids in and he is sleeping more then I wouldn't worry.
If you can maintain the same sleep schedule, that would be great. I think you should try as best you can but know that it may not be perfect.
Hope your little one is feeling better soon!

Re: A quick stomach virus question...
Thanks! And at what point would you start food again? The ped told me after 3-4 hours of no vomiting with taking fluids I could try crackers, which we did and he tolerated....I just don't want to push it---its been 7 hours since he threw up and he has been taking fluids in small/frequent amounts and a few crackers.

Were you able to feed him a bit more? Did he tolerate it okay?

Thanks for asking....I gave him a piece of dry toast and he didn't throw up, but he did have diarrhea after. He seems to be taking fluids well and he peed all over my DH when he changed him before bed, so he did well with wet diapers, I just hope he gets better soon!

Sounds like he is on the mend. It's good that he is taking in fluids so you don't need to be concerned about hydration. His stomach will come back around. Definitely stick to the BRAT (banana, rice, apples/applesauce and toast) diet for the start of tomorrow; it should help to battle the diarrhea.
