A random question, as I sit here pondering while rocking DD in the high-chair...
If you/DH were able to squeeze full time hours into a 4 day work-week , do you feel quality of life would improve ??
I feel it might....
I wonder if thats something that our president would ever consider making a mandatory voluntary option for companies to offer their employees...
It is such a shame to me that the people and the things most important to us truly have to come last in the scheme of priorities because of the cost of living ....Maybe there would be less stress, less traffic, a decrease in juvenile deliquency, improvement of school grades amongst so many other sectors of life I feel that are affected by there simply not being enough "time" , kwim ???
Just thinking outloud since I have nothing else to do but keeping this high-chair moving

I would absolutely take on 2 extra hours a day in order to have one more full day with DS. Itll never happen though bc most business operate in a 9-5 setting, so if one business needs to reach a client, customer, supplier, whatever, on the other companys "off day" it would probably wreak havoc if this happened on a weekly basis. So its seems it needs to be one of those all or nothing deals.

It would definately need to be a complete revamping of how we operate as a whole...But I could see it working with maybe some type of staggered work week Mon-Th and Tu-Fri, something along those lines..Similar to the way shifts work in a hospital I guess....
Wishful thinking

I'm currently on a "9/80" work week, where we work 80 hours in 9 days, so it's a compromise between 4 day weeks and 5 day weeks. It's really great having every other Friday off, but then again, that's an hour every single day that I don't get with DC. If I worked another hour a day, I would barely get to see DC during the week. That's not something I would be willing to trade at this point.

Hmmm...interesting too
I'm guessing that extra hour a day would probably get tacked onto the end of a work-day and couldn't be an earlier start time ...That would be hard

We have the option of starting earlier. I work from 7-4:30, but if we had 10 hour days, there's no way I could function at 6am, so I would have to work 7-5:30. A coworker with an infant works 6-3:30 so he is home earlier, but it's not easy.

Re: A random question, as I sit here pondering while rocking DD in the high-chair...
DH works 4 day work weeks & starts in the afternoon. So the 4 days he works he sees the kids in the morning & then he has 3 full days off to see them. At first, he was very upset about working the 2 extra hours & being away from them, but now he's realized that it's great having 3 full days to dedicate to them.
It would be nice if more companies at least gave the option for employees to decide what's best for their families. I agree that it's so sad that family has to come second because of the ridiculous cost of living here

I think its even worse for those who have to work 2 or more jobs because the the cost of living is so high. As a result again, family time get put on the back burner.......
My DH has a second pt job and the days he has to work both jobs he only gets to see DS for a few seocnds in the morning.
