A spin on an old debate
We have talked (ad naseaum) about how it makes us mad to take the time out to send someone a long FM with details and loads of info and not get acknowledged or thanked. Does the same ring true if for posts?

Re: A spin on an old debate
I would say yes- I actually make it a point to answer people's posts specifically when no one else had answered them (Even though there's been a thousand views...) That's what we're all here for- and though not everything applies to everyone for an answer- it's nice to know when you take the time to write something that someone should take the time to answer it...

Yup, I always try to thank people, especially when I'm asking for opinions or information, no matter what responses I get or how many.

I only get annoyed if I feel overlooked. Otherwise, I don't really care. I don't expect someone to come in and post a thank you for every single reply and I am fine with a "Thanks in Advance" in the first post.

Re: A spin on an old debate
I should clarify that I don't typically address every person who responds. I do a follow-up later sometimes with my decision, and thank everyone for their help.
And I mean it too. This is a great resource for opinions!

I try to thank everyone who answers BUT I have a problem with the people that post thank you after every response. even go so far as to bump a post so every answer gets acknowledged. that bugs me.

Re: A spin on an old debate
Honestly, my first instinct is to thank everyone as they post because that's what I would do conversationally, but instead, I wait and then summarize and thank at the end

Agreed. I usually wait and post a general thank you to everyone who responded so I don't bump by post needlessly.
Asking for help here (for me) is like stopping a stranger in the street for directions and walking away without saying thank you.

ITA with this...sometimes I read a post and either someone has already answered questions or I can't answer the question so I move on. I'm on here enough, imagine how many hours I'd be here if I answered every post
As far as thank you's, if someone does a TIA, I'm fine with it. I don't usually go back and check after I've written a reply anyway.

Re: A spin on an old debate
Nah, I post just to watch myself type.
I think that if you are posting a lot of informative material to help someone out - then yes, a thank you is in order. A 5 paragraph opinion though...maybe not so much.
Still I have to say that sometimes I'll start a thread asking for advice or opinions, or even info, come back to it later to find it on the 3rd page of NFR and I feel silly bumping it so I don't thank - but that does not take away from how thankful I am. I guess in those cases, I should probably FM the people...
