a student told me i look different
One of my students from two years ago, stopped by my classroom for a visit just now, (I'm on my lunch period).
He said I looked really different, (I was out on maternity last year) I said yes I cut my hair and changed the color.
He said, "No that's not it,you gained a lot of weight. Your arms look bigger. You used to be so small."
I said, "Thanks a lot!" And then he continued on innocently and asked me about the baby.
Needless to say, I just lost my appetite.

That is so rude. Seriously, does this new generation have any manners?
ETA: Out of curiosity, how old is this student?

I'm guessing around 15 or 16. He was alone in my room with me, no friends around to impress and we have...(had) a good relationship. He genuinely did not see anything wrong with his comment.
I'm over it now, but it did sting at the time. I agree manners definitely need to be taught.

Re: a student told me i look different
I am on a three person team (6th grade) and this week I was told that I looked like I just rolled out of bed, the other teacher was told her hair looked messy, and the other was told she looked like she was pregnant!

Kids just say whatever they are thinking without stopping to think how it will effect people. I've had it done to me before as well. Don't let a dumb kid get you down.

Re: a student told me i look different
That's just kids for you. I had a terrible cold last week, and when I said good morning to my class, one of my students shouted out, "Hey Mrs. M! You sound like a man!"
So I retorted, "hey Cody! I'm the one giving you a report card grade next month!" and made a gesture over my grade book like I was writing a "zero" the size of the entire page. The class loved it.
