A thank you for those who helped with EI for speech and a quick question
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped with the questions I had while getting my ds evaulated. He will be getting services 2 times a week starting in about 2 weeks. For those of you who have your dc's in speech therapy, how long would you say it took before you noticed a difference? Thanks again for all your insight and support!

Thats wonderful that he will be getting the services he needs!!!
Every child develops at their own pace, with or without therapy. Try not to compare yours with others or you will drive yourself crazy!!! Good luck and if I can help please let me know!!!

Re: A thank you for those who helped with EI for speech and a quick question
My son is 2 and I am just starting the process. He had his 2nd EI eval last weekend and qualifies for speech services because of his delay. So I am curious to know the answer to this. I believe my EI speech pathologist said that sometimes it can be 3-6 months and they are fine and no longer require service, and sometimes longer. I guess it goes case by case.
It's great to know there are others in the exact same boat as you and we can support each other!!

i'm a speech pathologist... i work in an elementary school now, but did one of my grad school internships in EI. the last 2 posters are absolutely right that every kid develops at their own pace.. for some, it could be just a few months, some a year or more. it all depends on the child.... feel free to ask me any other questions you have!

Re: A thank you for those who helped with EI for speech and a quick question
My son started speech in Jan and I can't believe the diff. His vocabulary is just growing each time however when they start it just doesn't stop when you leave the speech class you really have to work on it at home as well. My ds's speech teacher gives him a book which has things for us to work on at home and mouth exercises to do as well. He also is less frustuated since he can say what he wants now. Everything isn't really clear but you can deff. tell what he is trying to say. His teacher said she just wants the words right now and then they will work on the correct way on saying them. Good Luck to you.
