A very happy beginning for Dodger
As most of you know, my husband and I found a lost dog wandering our town going on four weeks ago. We conducted an extensive effort to find his owners, and we failed.
We thought that we could make the situation work with our cats and keep Dodger in our house. I wasn't posting every move on here because I was super busy with it all, but we spent more than half of our savings and hours upon hours every day trying to make it work/figure out a solution. The cats were petrified, and Dodger was not a fan of them. We knew we had to find another solution.
Amongst myself, my parents, and DH, we contacted over 1,000 individuals people and 500 rescue groups, shelters, etc. to try to find him a home (many of these groups will post the dog for you on their petfinder or other websites). KJOY even broadcasted for us asking if anyone could help. We weren't getting any leads, until we came into contact with FurBabies in East Rockaway.
FurBabies is a rescue program that operates out of foster homes. The dogs will never go to a shelter; they will always be in a home. Within a few days, we had a match for a foster family. DH and I went over there yesterday, and we were very nervous and sad that he might be leaving that day.
The foster mom has a female German shepherd mix, and within minutes of Dodger meeting her, they fell in love. They were running up and down the stairs together like kids on Christmas morning. The foster mom put her dog in her crate for a couple of minutes, and Dodger spent the whole time trying to figure out how to get her out.
The foster mom lives about five minutes away from us, and she said that we could facetime with her to see Dodger, call/email and check up, and even visit Dodger. He was so, so happy with the dog.
Of course, we miss him, but he was extremely happy at his new home (so much more room for him to run than in our little space!), and our cats are happy again (they were constantly crying, especially in the last few days). Making the animals happy was super important to us. When FurBabies goes to potential adopters, DH and I can even go with them to see where Dodger would be living. We're glad that we now know that he can be in a home with other dogs.
We'll need some time to totally heal, but like I said, the animals are all happy, and that was the priority.
Thanks to everyone for the support and suggestions throughout this process. Even though I wasn't posting throughout the entire process, I was still reading/listening as much as I could (I was on the phone/email 6-8 hours a day contacting different groups!) Thanks so much again for the support.

It sounds like a positive step for Dodger and I hope that he finds a FUREVER home very very soon! I am glad that it is local and that you will be in tune with all of his future steps. I know you have invested a lot of time, effort and love into Dodger's life!!

You are magnificent. Really, I am so impressed with your resources in trying to make things work. I don't even have words to express how much of an angel and a dedicated and wonderful person you are. I am almost in tears here. Wow. What a story. You saved a life. You were his angel.

I am finding it so hard to find words to express to you how I feel reading this.. You have set an example for me and have found a resource in my very town that helped you and I never heard of it.. You and your dh are real true angels.. There is a place in heaven just for you.. Thank you !!! for showing me how to be a better person!! amazing just truly amazing!!!

Soooooooo glad to hear that you finally found a solution that made everyone happy! You went above and beyond with him and I more then applaud you for that! Plus the fact that you'll be able to stay updated about him, visit him and even have a say in his permanent home is awesome!
