Do you plan on TTC soon or waiting a couple more years? If you plan on waiting, take the job.

I actually have a question for you, how many hours to do you work? And how many hours do you work a day to do a condensed work week?

If you're planning on having a family in the near future, I'd stick with what you have. I know 20k is alot of money, but I agree with you, that the schedule you have if worth alot too. As long as you and DH can make it on what you make now, and will still be able to once children come along, I wouldn't go for it.

If children are "somewhere in the future" but you don't really know when, then you might consider it more so that the extra $ could be put into savings and then used for other things once the children come.

I think you and DH need to consider short term vs. long term goals and then go from there.

I know I only work 3 days a week (12 hours/day) so it is still full time, but the days I don't work, to me are invaluable. I took a salary cut to have this schedule so I could be here for my DD.

I took a pay cut of more than 20K to find a new job with a better schedule so that I could spend more time with DC. Best decision I made and I don't regret it for a second. If I didn't have any kids and wasn't planning on it anytime soon, then I'd take the new job and bank the extra money.

Hi! I totally remember you from LIF (we worked at the same company, but never met, around the time we both got married - I was novbride or something like thatChat Icon )

Anyway to answer your question I left the job in NYC when I first started thinking about TTC because I knew I couldn't make it work with the commute on top of my FT hours.

I took a $10K pay cut to take a local job with a large consumer goods company. Since starting the local job I've increased my salary significantly, and since I've had my daughter I've negotiated great flexibility (work 20 mins from home, work 3 days in the office 8:30 - 4:30 and 2 days from home), however I'm interviewing to take a job at a firm that allows PT employees because the time home with your DC is invaluable! Having to split my time with work and with DD on my work from home days is not easy and not rewarding.

I don't know when you are planning to start TTC, but if its in the near future I'd keep your schedule. Any extra days with DC is priceless. I agree with DH, if you can get by without the add'l $20K then money isn't everything.

Good luck with your decision and TTC whenever that isChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

To me, the schedule you have now is worth 20K+. If you plan on having children and this is a job that will remain steady for you, I say keep the one you have.

If it were me, I would stay where I am. You're not unhappy. And 20K doesn't really make THAT much of a difference. Not for the amount of time you would have to give up for it, IMO.

I agree! IF you are planning on waiting 3 years then go for it, the money might help set you up better for the future., If you are planning a baby in the next year or two keep your current job, you will really appreciate the flexibility with a baby!

I wouldnt do it if you can get by without it. I have a job now that sometimes makes me get home too late to see DS and those days make me miserable. I'd take a $20k paycut to ensure that wouldnt happen.
