Ab Workouts
Ok-- while I have only been back at the gym hardcore for about 6 weeks, of course I still am frustrated when I don't see results.
I do 350 crunches/sit ups-- 6 sets of various exercises- for my ab workout. I do abs everyday (or everyday I work out which is about 5 to 7 times a week). What more can I do??
I don't need a six pack or anything-- I just wanted a toned belly.... as oppposed to the jelly that is there now.
Any suggestions?

Re: Ab Workouts
It's all about fat - the more fat you have, the less you'll see your abs. You could do 3,000 crunches a day, but it won't matter if you have too much overall body fat.
I have fairly low body fat, only spend about 5 minutes on abs every other day or so, and my abs are pretty defined because there's no fat covering them up.
Just give it some more time and as you start to lean out, your abs will show!

Re: Ab Workouts
Well, even at my lowest weight which was pretty thin-- and I am only about 10 pounds more than that now-- I still did not have a hard stomach-- so, it's just a really hard area for me to tone-- no matter how much I work at it. I was looking for other exercise suggestions.

Re: Ab Workouts
Do you do reverse crunches? Use the ball? It's all about squeezing the abdominal wall. I tell my clients to squeeze their ribs, together, scoop their belly and then squeeze towards their hips.
Keep your lower back flat to the floor at all times too, this protects your back and engages your lower region of the abdominal wall.
Also, if you are not already, get in the habit of holding your abs in during the regular day. If you keep them in tight all the time, you won't need to do crunches as much!
HTH!

are the reverse crunches leg raises? I used to do those-- I guess I can add that back into my repatiore.
I use the ball occassionally-- but I never feel like I am sitting right on it. Which is why I use it so sporadically.
I am really good about keeping my lower back glued to the floor to get the most impact from my crunches- so that I am doing already.
Thanks for the tips!

It doesn't matter how much you weigh. Ever heard the term "skinny fat"? It refers to girls that look thin but actually have a high percentage of body fat. So you could be light, but still have too much body fat and that's why your abs aren't showing. Sorry to sound like a broken record
I love using the stability ball, but I mostly just do crunches, and I don't go all the way down at the bottom of the crunch, so my abs are always contracted. I also will hold a weighted ball and twist from side to side (in the up position of a crunch).

Re: Ab Workouts
I have this pilates dvd The waist slimmer/abs workout is only 10 mins but since starting about 4 months ago I can really see results. I think it is because it targets upper, middle, lower and side when before I was moslty concentrating on upper. I do it every day.

Re: Ab Workouts
Have you tried Pilates? My entire waist and ab area reshaped itself after doing pilates for about 4-5 months.
