? about cleaning people, maybe lawyers here would know
If you find a cleaning person, through word of mouth, craigslist etc, and they're not part of a business, and NOT insured and bonded
what if they hurt themselves at your house? Like fall down the stairs or something, can they sue you? I'm looking for a cleaning person, and am trying to decide between a person and a service for our house.

Yes, you are opening yourself to liability.

So then, for all the people that don't use a service but a person
Are you ever concerned about that?

Is it any different (legally) from having a guest over the house who could possibly get hurt?

Never thought about it honestly.
I know a long while back my friend got hurt at my parents house and they went through home owners for her medical bills.

I guess not, but a guest wouldn't be a total stranger. The cleaning person, until they've been working here for awhile, I wouldn't know very well. My mom has had cleaning people in the past that have stolen things, so I guess I come from a place of paranoia
I guess I could do a reference check--sometimes they also make me paranoid too because what if its just people they're friends with that I'm calling?

We got an 1 million dollar umbrella policy after an uninsured workman injured themselves in our house. He never sued but we wanted to protect ourselves in the future against similar problems.
