? about fruit flies
I've been seeing a few fruit flies in my kitchen and I have no idea where they are coming from. How do you get them? My kitchen is clean and I have no fruit lying around so someone help me please

Re: ? about fruit flies
Do you live near a farm or a vineyard or someone who has a veggie garden? My parents live out by the vineyards on the north fork and they have ridiculous amounts of fruit flies. They sell traps and they work really well. They're just these plastic triangle looking things that are filled with some type of vinegar they're attracted to. They get in and drown.

Re: ? about fruit flies
We get a few here and there and we don't have fruit either. I have no real solution, but after a day or so, they fly slower and are easier to "clap" dead. Good luck.

Re: ? about fruit flies
Could it be your sink drain or garbage disposal that they are attracted to?

Nope, I clean my draw with the garbage in it every other day so it really doesn't get a chance to get dirty and my sink is always empty and wiped. I have a dish washer so I hardly ever leave dishes in my sink. I just can't figure it out

Do you have plants in your house, they could be coming from there.

Re: ? about fruit flies
They are probably drain flies then, not fruit flies. Try pouring drain cleaner down there.

Re: ? about fruit flies
OMG!!!! We have them too!!! I literally just asked my DH "what the heck is up with these fruit flies and where did they come from!?!" We've never had them before and all of a sudden over the past week I'm seeing them everywhere!
They're the tiny, gnat type of bugs flying around, right???

Re: ? about fruit flies
Are you sure they're fruit flies? There are flies that are attracted to wet soil that doesn't drain well. I used to get them when I overwatered my plants.
If I have problems with my drain, I dump some baking soda down there and pour boiling water into the drain.
If I get fruit flies, I take the garbage can outside and scrub the hell out of it too. Just a tiny amount of liquid or sugar stuck to the side can draw them in.

Do they look the same? How would I know the difference?

Re: ? about fruit flies
They're called fungus gnats and they are really small. I caught them by putting sticky traps down like the ones in this picture - those are fungus gnats on them:

Are you talking about the flies that are reddish, have small round bodies, and they tend to fly right for your face?
Or like regular big flies that you can hear coming, because they're so big?

Those don't look like the ones I'm talking about. They are very tiny and I feel as if they fly around my head teasing me because I can't get it I sit there and try to slap them but I look like I'm really clapping in the air or something
