? about people in delivery room
did you girls have anyone besides DH in the delivery room with you? Both sides of the family are offended I said the room was off limits to everyone except DH (who will be way up north anyway). Am I in the minority here?

Re: ? about people in delivery room
It's totally YOU & YOUR DH's decision! I had my DH, my Mom and my DH's mom in there with me and I wouldn't have had it any other way.... but that was just my preference

Re: ? about people in delivery room
I think it depends on your hospital, I delivered at Mercy and only my DH was allowed in the delivery room. We actually wanted it that way because its so post to be a special experience between the two of us. I ended up having a c-section so DH was the only one allowed in that room only also.

I had DH and my MIL... i too, wouldnt have had it any other way. I believe its up to you, but some places say it depends on the Dr as to how many people are allowed. Good luck!!

Re: ? about people in delivery room
Just my DH only! At Winthrop I know if you have a c/s, he's the only one allowed anyway.
Its totally up to you. When I had my first, we didn't even tell anyone I was having the baby until after he was born. We wanted to have that time all to ourselves. The rest of the family had plenty of time after the baby's arrival.

Re: ? about people in delivery room
For us it was also just me and DH and he was also way up north!
My mom was upset that she wasn't allowed in, especially because her best friend did go in the delivery room with her daughter but, much like you, I felt that it was a very special moment that should only be shared with my husband!

Just DH and I, and if he couldn't be there then no one else would be invited.

My mom was a little bummed at first but eventually respected my decision to only have DH in the room with me. Well we had our doula also but no other family in there.

Me and my DH...that was it. Besides, I had a c-section, he was the only one in there.

Re: ? about people in delivery room
This decision is YOURS - and only yours, not even DH (ie I want my mom, but not my MIL). You are the one feeling vulnerable and in pain with your legs in the air. Who you decide to get you through that moment is up to you. You can have someone there when you are laboring and then leave when it's time to push.
With Joseph - it was just DH. With Madeline - it was just me. DH was signing paperwork since they had lost the pre-admit forms. We both thought I had another 6 hours to go & either the second birth was just much worse or that I was being a wimp about the pain. When I got there, the doctor went to evaluate me & said "Let's see how far along you are, oops there's the head."
I was there to see my twin give birth. I feel that it is a gift to see someone give birth. It certainly made both my labors easier having seen her deal with it first hand. I credit my sister for my ability to give birth without any pain medication, but as I said you are the only one who can decide.

Re: ? about people in delivery room
NO WAY.. that's probably one of the most private and intimate moments of your life! It was just me and DH, hospital rules because of the c-section, and I wouldn't have had it any other way

Re: ? about people in delivery room
I was supposed to have just DH and my mom. The hospital allowed only 2 so that solved my problem.
However, I went into quick labor at work and a coworker had to bring me to the hospital. She stayed with me and was going to leave when my mom came, but my mom came in as I was crowning and they had no time to kick her out. I must say having someone who has been through labor twice turned out to be really helpful!

Re: ? about people in delivery room
I only wanted my DH in there but my Mom flew in from Florida early so I couldn't very well have her sit outside. It turned out to be a good thing though because her and my DH took shifts so they could get some sleep. Since I labored (induction) for almost 2 days, it was a big help. Then I ended up needing a c/s anyway, so only DH was allowed in.

Re: ? about people in delivery room
I had dh and my mom. It was kind of an issue for awhile because my mom wanted to be in the room and dh was saying no and my mother was insulted. I wasn't really sure what I wanted. When the day came my mom followed us to the hospital and was going to wait outside, but dh asked her to stay (I think more for me to keep the peace). I am very happy it worked out the way it did, and mom held the baby while dh held my hand while I was being stitched up.

I delivered at Mercy as well and they let my mom be there. She came with us to the hospital and everything progressed rather quickly so she just stayed with us.

Re: ? about people in delivery room
Only Dh and that is how I wanted it. For me, I didn't want any distratcions or to feel like I had to entertain a crowd. I love my mom dearly but for this I wanted to be left alone. I think it is more rude of people to be offended by your very personal decision.

Re: ? about people in delivery room
I'm not PG yet, but I think I'd only want DH in the room.
When my sister had her kids, she just had DH w/her. My mom only went to the hospital after she got the call from my brother-in-law that the baby was born. She said it was "their time".

I gave birth at LIJ and they only allow 2 people. My mom and DH were in the room with me. I wouldn't have it any other way. I really needed both of them.

Me too...I had my DH and my sister. I couldn't have done it without either of them. My sister was a huge source of strength because she was someone I looked up to in the absence of a mother.
Same with me...I had DH and my sister. I am so glad my sister was there she is my mother figure in my life. St. Charles only allows 2 people so it worked out well for us.

DH only. I was afraid that my mother and sister would ask to be there. Luckily they felt it should be a private moment for DH and I and it certainly was!
