Re: ? about TV in a child's room

We have a TV in our bedroom, our LR and our upstairs office (doubles has our guest room). Each has a DVD and DVDR. the LR has a VHS player has well.
My children are not allowed to have their own TVs until most likely HS.
I don't believe they should be staying in their room to watch TV. They need to be out with the family playing and we can watch things together. I just don't see the need.

Re: ? about TV in a child's room

I don't ever want one in their room. We only have one TV, I like it that way.

We are such TV heads anyway...I could not imagine how much we would watch if we started putting them in bedrooms.

No t.v in their room for a LOOONG time. I never got one in my room till I was in college. I was always brought up to watch tv in the living room and that was it, and that is how it will be for our boys.

No TV (or computer) in the bedrooms until they go away to college and have their own dorm room! Chat Icon That's how I was raised, and even as 1 of 6 kids, there was never much of a fight over the tv in the den. I want them to interact with their family and be a part of the activities.

I completely agree. I wasn't aloud to get one until I 18 and out of HS. As much as I hated it then I am so grateful now. Now my sibilings on the other hand had them in their rooms a lot younger and I see a difference in how much family time they have even though 2 of them are in their early 20's.

We have one in there but I think I can count on my fingers the amount of times we have used it.
He's a master with the remote though. When he comes to visit his mommy in her sick bed he hops in snuggles right in my armpit and just pushes those buttons like there is no tomorrow. Countless times he totally screws up the cable box or the tv and then i have to wait for DH to get home and fit because I don't know how to.

We're not putting TVs in their rooms. DH is against it because he feels it was easy for him to cut off his family & shut himself off in a room growing up.

I agree with it. I'd rather them be watching in a common area. It's not because I worry about appropriate TV viewing. For me, it's a way of connecting more with them - even if it's me telling them to quiet down.

I agree with this 10000%

Re: ? about TV in a child's room

He has a small TV in his room BUT it is not hooked up to the satellite. It is there for his V-smile baby system, and b/c we had a TV in there already when it was our guest room. I will probably keep it disconnected for a long while & only allow him to use it for his V-Smile & Videos.

I don't have the Vsmile in the LR b/c the dogs are attracted to the bright coloursChat Icon

Re: ? about TV in a child's room

I am weird about this. I don't mind my kids watching tv or playing video games or playing on dhe computer. But I will not let them ever have one in their room until and unless they are old enough to buy it for themselves.

They have a huge playroom and we have an office. The bedroom is not where they play games or watch television. It is where they sleep or read. Occassionally they get punished and sit in the bedroom during time out.

I have an old TV in my room - but we don't watch it. Don't even have it hooked to cable so we will likely be getting rid of it soon. We watch tv in the den, the playroom or the office. Just like them.

Re: ? about TV in a child's room

He has a tv/dvd player in his room. Its not hooked up to the DirectTV, its used for the DVD. Yes he does watch it, when I'm in the shower and he is in his room playing with his toys, its on. Or when I'm cleaning the bedrooms, its on.

Re: ? about TV in a child's room

Never say never but I don't plan on my kids having a TV in their rooms for a very very long time. I just don't like the idea of it. We do have a playroom where my DS can play his video games and they watch DVDs in the LR.
