Absolute Yankee Madness
The streets are insane!! Lots of fun energy but also lots of craziness. I would personally not bring anyone under the age of 8 years old--its that crazy

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
I wish I was more into the parade/celebration - everyone is so excited. But I was just telling my co-worker I saw people drinking beer in Penn Station at 8:30am. I love beer as much as the next person but I don't think I could drink at 8:30.

There were a bunch of people on my train this morning who were going to the parade who just wearing t-shirts or jerseys.
Hope they have lots of Nyquil!
Anyone know if the LIRR will be alcohol-free today? I certainly hope so.

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
It's way worse than the Giants parade.
I couldn't even get onto Broadway this time, I had to go the back way & even THAT was crowded.
There were people yelling on the subway, as if they didn't even know they weren't at the parade yet.
It is so loud & it hasn't even started yet.

It is absolutely INSANE! I work right here on Wall St. and all the streets leading to Broadway are FULL! Cops EVERYWHERE, rowdy youngsters EVERYWHERE! I'd be very careful with kids and watch your pockets!

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
I got a little chuckle out of this ...
I'm watching Good Day LA and the news anchor was talking to a guy at the NY Stock Exchange for the a.m.report. The NY guy says "Look behind me, there is no one but me here right now. All the Traders went out to see the parade and it doesn't even start for an hour. LA guy says 'You do realiize we don't care"
Both start laughng.

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
It is totally nuts - this is my 4th Yankee parade either on or a block off of the parade route and I don't remember this many people being out so early!
I saw so many people bringing kids in strollers on the PATH this am at 7:25. There were also a number of kids on my train this am as well.

I saw a bunch of teenagers on the Mineola platform this morning with a huge jug of Arizona ice tea. Yeah sure it's just ice tea officer.

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
I love the Yankees. I truly do. I am a HUGE fan and was SO excited that they won.
But this parade to me is just an excuse for people to get wasted and act like a-holes.
It takes a nice idea- and turns it into a disaster and chaos.
I feel bad for anyone who has to work in the city today...
And why aren't the kids in school? And don't people have jobs??

NJ schools are closed for some sort of teacher conference thing (I know though all of the kids aren't from NJ).
I'm just hoping since it's over now, people will decide that they want to head home soon as opposed to waiting for rush hour (especially since a lot of them came in with me on my 6:30am train).

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
DH said people were getting on the LIRR at 6:30 drunk and disorderly headed for the city.
A friend got on at 8am and they were near more drunks.
Thats a bit much for me.

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
I'm not surprised at all. I joked with DH who is a HUGE yankee fan that I'm surprised he wasn't dressing his girls and taking them - but he said you couldn't pay him to take them anywhere near there that it wasn't safe and the crowd gets rather wild.

Re: Absolute Yankee Madness
I just saw gaggles of A-Rod and Jeter wh*res when I went to grab lunch ... and I'm in midtown!! I guess they hung around to do touristy stuff!
And I wondered the same thing about how so many people managed to take the day off from work FOR A PARADE ... I guess people are less concerned about job security in this economy than I thought

There were a bunch of fans on my train this morning and even though I am not a Yankee Fan I think it is great. Sure they were drinking a bit but they were having fun. I expect tongiht to be a rowdy commute but as long as it's not violent then I don't mind. If it was my team that won I would be the same way and I am 32 years old! I don't see anything wrong with it!
