Re: Accutane or the generic version

I just wanted to mention I had VERY bad acne for years. I tried everything. What finally worked for me was ProActiv - in a way. I ordered it...then it just got really expensive so I looked at the ingredients and went to the pharmacy. What I wound up buying was Clean -n-Clear in the purple bottle with Benzoyl & Peroxide - the same % that ProActiv is. And it is a WHOLE lot cheaper. I used it for years until my skin changed. eta: here it is - Continuous Control:

My only side effect was dry skin. I never felt depressed...I was quite the opposite. I felt great about myself b/c my skin was clear! I
Depression is constantly brought up, but I know many people who used Accutane and say that it was the best decision they ever made.

I highly recommend Accutane or the generic brand. It did wonders for my self-esteem.

thank you sooo much for that! see, i very much agree with you! if my skin is clear how can i be depressed? because if i was waking up in the morning with a clear face i would be in a better mood- as compared with a day like today where something new and huge popped up and put me in a bad mood all day.

Have you tried Azelex? I've been using it for almost two years and it works great. I started breaking out like crazy after I got engaged and the derm gave me this. It took a couple of months to work, but it fantastic.

HTH,
Kelly

i even gave it another shot again and it didnt work that time too

Re: Accutane or the generic version

I have bad breakouts when it is that time of the month and I started seeing a dermotoligst in the city Dr. Howard Sobel and I get facials at his spa and use his DDF skin care line and my skin has never looked better, granted my problem is not chronic but none the less it can get pretty bad before that time of the month. Anyway his stuff is great so if you do do the acutane you will also need a good skincare line.

Re: Accutane or the generic version

I just wanted to let you know that DH used Accutane for awhile and did not have any major adverse side effects. The only minor things that he had were dry skin and lips.

When I'm done it will be a total of 5 months.
My acne was not that bad, the doctor will know how long will be right for you. She actually increased the dosage for my last month of treatment, i was on the lowest before.
Good luck, it really has been worth it.

Oh, and i have dry eyes, too, but i also had lasik so i think it's just making that worse.

Re: Accutane or the generic version

Two members of my family used it for acne. For one, it worked extremely well. The other one had cystic acne and did not have as positive results. You also have to be very careful about spending time in the sun - you will burn much more easily.
