i'm not sure about that one specifically, but with most surgeries- you're usually out of bed within a couple of days, Max, and they usually like to sart rehab/PT asap.

It depends on the exact injury and which type of reconstruction that they do. Typically you can partial weight bear with crutches like 7 - 10 days after surgery. Rehab will start 2 - 3 days post surgery... It really depends on what your exact injury is and surgery can also be avoided. FM me if you have any questions, I am an athletic trainer and work in physical therapy

I had acl surgery. I was on crutches the next day. But believe me you will not want to walk. Once I started physical therapy I was back to walking, but extremely slowing.

Re: ACL Surgery...what's the amount of time you can't walk, etc?
I had ACL Surgery when I was 17 years old. My doctor was very aggressive, so I was up the next day trying to bend my leg to a 90 degree angle as I puked everywhere from the drugs I was given for the surgery the day before.
Shana, it was a tough recovery, but thank GOD I did it and my Doctor was and is the best. I lead an active life with lots of running and spinning and strength training.
My doctor made me walk about a week after my surgery and it was scary because my leg was so weak.
Let me know if you have anymore questions. I look back and I am pretty proud of my recovery. My doctor said I handled it better than some of the football players on the Giants team whom he had treated.

Re: ACL Surgery...what's the amount of time you can't walk, etc?
thank you all for your info. It's not for me, it's for DH. He was told 10 years ago he'd need to have it done at some point and he went to a knee Dr yesterday.
It seems as though there is no avoiding this surgery. He could prescribe a knee brace for the time being. I believe DH tore it many years ago, it may have healed incorrectly, and apparently even if it did, the ACL is not doing what it is supposed to be doing in his knee. When the Dr pulled on his knee, his knee shifted ALOT more than it should have. There was no tension there.
DH is in retail right now, so he was unsure of the time he'd need to be off his feet and then the limitations since he stands a good part of every day.

Re: ACL Surgery...what's the amount of time you can't walk, etc?
When I had mine I was out of school for a week and I think I was on crutches for a few weeks after that. Going from not putting any pressure to walking with one crutch.
When I was home I was doing simple excercises like bending my knee and leg lifts. At first you will need help because you can't do it on your own, but try not to get frustrated.
I had the Bledsoe (not sure of spelling) on so I could gradually bend it more and more.
I had my surgery at the end of the school year (around May) and I was back playing Field Hockey in August.
The harder you work in physical therapy, the faster you will recover.
Also, presurgery, you may want to strengthen the leg muscles. That will help also.
Good luck.

Re: ACL Surgery...what's the amount of time you can't walk, etc?
I had ACL surgery a couple years ago, and honestly, they had me up walking on crutches the same day, just not bending. I was bending the knee 2 days later. It's not good NOT to walk and bend the knee. It hurts like CRAZY, but they make you do it. Physical therapy started for me 4 days after surgery, and they had me bending as much as I could. I was out of work for 2 weeks, and on the crutches for about a month. You have to learn to walk all over again after you get off the crutches.
