Acne & Pregnancy

What can I do about acne during pregnancy? Is anything safe?

Re: Acne & Pregnancy

I suggest asking your doctor.

If you used to use a soap before pregnancy ask if you can continue. I told mine what I used and he had no issue with it (I actually brought it with me).

I HATE my acne !!! My face explodes with or without washing, but that’s NOTHING compared to the back of my neck and shoulders.. UGH!

I heard that if you’re afraid of anything right now… just using a mild soap and washing several times a day helps.

Good Luck!

Re: Acne & Pregnancy

I believe Azelex is one of - if not the only - thing approved for treating acne during pregnancy.

I use it twice a day and wash at night with Dove soap. My face has been clear the entire pregnancy...but I think that has more to do with my hormones than the medication. (My Derm told me I'd either clear up or break out worse...)

Re: Acne & Pregnancy

interesting enough...I have had adult acne my entire adult life until I got pregnant! My skin has never been nicer. Although, my doctor said I could use Aveda products or Phisoderm.

azelex and finacea are okay (they are both made from azelaic acid, just different concentrations)

they have helped me tremendously, along with washing with cetaphil, and using apricot scrub.

my skin is not perfect but it's a lot better than it was.

Re: Acne & Pregnancy

I had horrible skin practically my entire pregnancy, and my skin was pretty clear before I was pregnant. People kept saying it would clear up by 2nd trimester, it didn't. Then it would clear up by the 3rd. It didn't really. It did level off a bit maybe around 30 weeks or so, but I never had that "glow" that other moms had.

I know some docs say Proactiv is safe to use. Mine said it was ok, but I didn't use it. I just kept with my cleanser and suffered it out.
