Activities for winter break
Trying to set up a list of something to do everyday of the break. I don't want to be stuck indoors all week alone with two stir crazy kids. Looking for some ideas of places I might be overlooking.
So far planning on cradle of aviation with friends and another gtg at maybe Bounce in Syosset.
Any other good suggestions....playhouse or indoor rides or museum?

Re: Activities for winter break
Do you still have winter break? Some of our days have been taken back because of the number of snow days we have already had.

Re: Activities for winter break
We do. We were on vacation for the 1st snow day in Jan so we didn't miss anything. Our district has them worked into the calendar. We had a week and a half at Easter ( Monday and Tuesday of second week) are replacement days. We also get the Friday before Memorial Day as well. Our February vacation is not in those days.
They first take May 23rd from us, then April 22, then the 21st.
So any suggestions for our week break?

How many days have you had off?
Most districts build in 3 days. We have used our 3 days. So if we get another day off, it will likely come from Spring break, not a break that is less than 2 weeks away.
It's a drive, but how about CMEE? It's cute, and clean, and they often have events during the breaks. Day trip to the Lego Discovery Center in Westchester?

Re: Activities for winter break
Winter breaks should all be saved. Many schools start from the calendar backwards so you lose around Memorial Day and then those days around spring break.

Legoland in Westchester?
Have you been there? I hear it is good from people on FB but the reviews have been awful. Afraid to try it.

Oh really? What reviews? What do they say? I am actually going next weekend for the first time, but with 2 friends who have been before and said it was good!

Re: Activities for winter break
Macaroni kid is usually great with plans. I am planning on LEGOLAND and going to the lego movie one day. I am also thinking of going to the indoor pool to swim for a little bit one day.

Activities for winter break
Swimming is a great idea like someone else mentioned. We recently joined a local hotel pool, and my kids LOVE to go swimming in the winter! I know you live in Nassau, and they have many more options there for day passes to the public pools. We have like 1 option here in Suffolk!

I heard from a few parents but read a ton of reviews on trip advisor. I hoped someone I know well went. The in person reviews I heard IRL were reviews of people's friends not the person directly. They really panned the place on there.

What is the science center in Riverhead? Is it worth coming from the Roosevelt field area.
Was avoiding the LICM we have a membership and vacations are always chaotic there.
How is the queen hall of science. Is it crazy during break. I love going to the natural history museum but last break it was so crazy it was hard to keep track of the kids bc it was wall to wall people. I think my girls might like that one esp my 6 year old both love science.

See I only know echo park. That place can get very crowded and I haven't been there in years. I like having a second adult with me if it is crowded. They would love that though.

Activities for winter break
The NY Hall of Science is great! My older son has been twice so far at almost 3 yrs old and he has a blast. We were there on Veteran's Day. It got crowded later in the day, but we got there at opening- 9:30, and were leaving by noon.

Ohh, definitely the NY Hall of Science! It's awesome there. I think anywhere that attracts kids is going to be crowded over the break and the best way to deal with that is either get there at opening, or later in the day, like 3 or 4.

Skating might be fun. Library are already booked and most honestly are not that great...and I can't take both bc my younger one would be a different time from my older one.
I will check skating out!

Does it get busy or crazy wall to wall line around the building like the natural history gets. We went one time and could not walk to see anything an hour in and the lines were 1/2 block out the doors. Normal weekend crowds don't bother me. This was so bad it was hard to walk and hold your child's hand. Think disney exit after fireworks mad dash to leave crowded.
