Re: Acupuncture anyone?
Hers is covered through our medical plan
It depends on what area you are doing as to how many needles And it depends on why you are going as to how many times you go. SHe goes for back pain and she will go 1x a week for about 6 weeks.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
At Empire we cover it for Dental/mouth pain, chemo related pain and for all pregnancy related issues, like naseua....Sall your insurance.
My friend is having it done for infertility, it has rave reviews for working. Up here its $75 for the evaluation and first session and then $50 each session afterwards. He told her 2-4 sessions.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
I was certified to do acupuncture at a drug/alcohol clinic. It was 5 needles in each ear to help the patients with cravings, as well as relax them. I was only certified to do those 5 points.
I hated doing it.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
I have a friend who is an accupuncturist ( I dont know if thats what its called). I would love to try it for TTC, but would be embarrassed to ask him. Deb, do you know where they put the needles.
PS- I have had it done and it does not hurt!

I am not sure. I have decided to try it and am still in the process of learning all about it. Whatever info I learn I will be happy to pass on to you. Do you belong to ovusoft too? I have a thread up there for info as well.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
Just a warning - the woman who used to cut my hair was in a car accident, and had chronic back pain, so she was going to an actupuncturist for it. He accidentally punctured her lung, and she was in quite a bit more pain because of it. So - please make sure you research whoever you go to before you go there....as I'm sure you would anyway

I thought acupuncture needles were small subqutaneous needles that were about an inch long, how can they puncture a lung?

I have no idea. All I know is that she stopped doing hair because of it - which is the only reason it sticks in my mind....she was amazing

LOLOLOLOL....Yes the needles are small and my mom goes for back pain (i guess Empire covers that tooo since we have it). Can't fathom how someone got a ung punctured by it.
BUT the amount of needles and where it goes depends on WHY you go? Some have a few in a particular area while others have more in multiple areas!

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
Cant imagine a needle puncturing a lung either..so I wouldnt worry , the chances must be small.
Jenn- you all probably have Empire just for Hospital...we dont cover your job for anything but hospital care, not medical care. So she must have another medical carrier.
Empire unfortunatly doesnt cover it for back pain or body "pains" of any kind, which stinks, because I hear its very useful.

No, no no, she didn't die . Sorry for that - I said she WAS amazing because she no longer does hair after the accident and all of this happened...too much stress, i guess. But she was my favorite haitstylist ever. She's the only person I've ever heard of that happening to - so i'm sure the chances are really slim.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
I Love it! I go to a doctor who is a chiro an acupunturist(Sp) I love him and I love getting it done!!
Denise I have BCBS and they cover it. It depends how many needles they put it depends on what is wrong with you. When I was on my honeymoon I was in Hawaii and I had to get it done I couldn't move my neck and I had about 20-30 needles.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
My Mom goes 3 times a week for her shoulder and whatever else comes up. She a RN that swears by it!. I used to go when my anxiety attacks were really bad. I've had up to 20 needles in me and never felt them.
If it is done correctly, there is no way they could puncture a lung. They don't put them in that far and they are very fine needles. Just make sure that you go to someone with a good reputation.
Oh, my Mom's insurance covers hers. I used to pay $40 a session or we would use the Barter system. I would take he kids pictures in exchange for sessions.

Re: Acupuncture anyone?
Accupuncture is sometimes the ONLY thing that helps my back pain. I have also had great results for headaches and allergies. The nuber of needles depends on the condition being treated. I usually end up with about 10 needles. They're so so tiny and thin, you just feel a tiny pin prick and that's it and then you lay there and re;ax for a while 10-45 minutes, and then they tae them out. it's no big deal. I can't say i know exactly how it works, but it realy does! Oh and my insurance dons't cover it, but it's a little cheaper at my dr's office if I buy it in blocks
