Acupuncture Question
Anyone ever try New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine or New York College of Health Professions for acupuncture? They are colleges which offer discounted acupuncture sessions given by interns but overseen by licensed acupuncturists. My insurance doesn't cover acupuncture for IF and these places are pretty cheap. NYCTCM is in Mineola and they charge $35 for the first visit and $25 for subsequent visits. NY College of Health Professions is in Syosset and they charge $50 for the first visit and $30 for follow ups.
Just wanted to see if anyone has tried them and what their experience has been.
Thanks!!

Re: Acupuncture Question
I see an acupuncturist now for IF, so does DH for sperm count(it's working for him!). My acupuncturist used to teach at the school.
I had a girlfriend who went there also for IF, she has PCOS. The only thing she said is that you don't always get the same person every time you go, so your treatments can be inconsitent.
If you want the name of my Ac., message me, he is in Huntington and Ronkonkoma and specializes in IF.

Suz, I take it...did she like it there? Did she ever mention anything about it being bad?
It doesn't seem like Syosset really knows what they're talking about in relation to IF.
Thanks!

She did like it. From what she said about Mineola the students in the clinic are supervised. They are completely schooled in what to look for, etc.
She went for a Chinese medicine degree that focused on acupressure, acupunture & herbs.
It may help stimulate your ovaries yielding more eggs(?), but in the end the genetics won't be affected.

I graduated from that school (Massage Therapy). There are indeed students and are supervised by a licensed acupunturist.
Although you technically cannot ask for it, try to find a student who is about to graduate. They will be more experienced than a student who just started to work in the clinic.
Ask the receptionist for her "input" on who she thinks is a "good" student.
If you need an actual acunpuncturist who is already licensed and experienced, let me know. He teaches at the school but has his own practice. He specializes in woman's reproductive health.
ETA: you can also have massage therapy and acupressure (not acupuncture) which would focus on the same points. It would be called an amma treatment.

Re: Acupuncture Question
I went to Syosset for many massages, including amma. Not for acupuncture tho, it made me nervous.
But, that was during my first IVF cycle.

Re: Acupuncture Question
i went to the school in syosset for amma a few years ago and really loved it.
then this year, towards the end of my pregnancy i went back there for regular massage to help with all my swelling and aches and pains. since i was pregnant with twins, they required a note from my ob, but they also gave me a last term student that had a lot of experience and was also a twin mom, so she really understood what i was going through. i was always able to get her for all appointments.
although i didn't do acupuncture there, i would highly recommend them. the supervisors always came around and observed.
