adoption costs

I am very interested in adopting but there are so many rules..ie weight & medical requirements and costs are so high that it seems like an unattainable dream. It is so sad that it is made to be so difficult. Chat Icon

Re: adoption costs

I know people that have paid up to 20K to adopt. If you adopt from another country, there are sometimes fees there as well. You also have to pay travel costs ect.

Have you looked into TUesday's child - it's an adoption agency of some sort but I'm not sure if you can only adopt older kids. Babies are much harder to adopt. We used to have a $5K reimburesment plan at my old company, so you or hubby have anything at your companies???

Re: adoption costs

I completely agree. It certainly is expensive and the process seems so long. Chat Icon

Re: adoption costs

I saw this woman on the news the other day. She gives out grants to help with the adoption process.

Good luck!

Re: adoption costs

While adoption has a cost associated so does pregnancy and especially fertility issues.
We spent approx. $15-$20K on adopting Jason and he is worth every last penny..even moreChat Icon There are companies that offer adoption benefits as well. There are tax credits, not deductions, associated with the costs of adoption.

The process, for us, was 9 months nearly to the date that we submitted our entire package, we got our referral for Jason. It does take time but so does pregnancy (getting pregnancy plus the 9 months) and so does lot of worth while things in life.
My agency is www.whfc.org
You can call there and make an appointment to speak with a social worker about the country requirements, costs and process.
IT is something you can figure out..there seems like a TON of paperwork but when you break it down into small tasks it is not all that hard. You need a copy of your marriage certificate- that is easy to get. You need to copy your driver licenses- again easy to do. You go to your local police station and get finger printed (cost $10 and we were in and out). Again, the WHOLE process at once seems too much, but you go step by step by step and it all gets done and you do get a baby in your arms

If you have any specific questions please let me know.Chat Icon
