Advice needed about my job and pediatrician......Sort of a vent also
Paige's pediatrician doesn’t have night hours and only does well visits during the week. Saturdays are just for sick kids.
Someone at my job just told me I should switch my ped. because most pediatricians have night hours. That might be, but I like Paige's ped. I’m not just going to switch her doctor just to accommodate my job. I feel like its my business what ped. I pick and that if I have to leave work early every now and then for appointments then they should deal with it. I told them many of times to just not pay me the hour that I leave early.
I guess im just venting also. I hate my job to begin with. Its a job that just "pays the bills". I’m so miserable here that I could give a rat's a$$ about it. Most of the people are nice, but a lot of times I have to stay late and I hate to stay late. I’m a mom now. Its bad enough that I have to work full time, but the days I have to stay late thats less time I get to spend with Paige. During the week I spend only around 2 1/2 hours a day with her. To me thats not enough. And forget it when I have to stay late. I never see her. Plus, my dad is in the hospital so some nights I never see her because I’m trying to juggle seeing my dad also.
I just don’t know what to do sometimes. I feel trapped at my job because they pay me a decent salary and have good benefits. Am I wrong for picking a ped. that doesn’t accommodate my job? What are your thoughts? Would you switch your ped.?
Sorry for the vent.

First of all,
I probably wouldn't switch pediatricians just because they don't have night hours. Are they available by phone? Sometimes most things can be handled over the phone, no? I interviewed alot and a good one seems hard to find! Don't switch them just yet. You have ALOT going on right now.
As for your job, is it possible it's time to move on? There are other jobs that would offer great benefits and perhaps a 7 hour workday instead of 8+ hours? Just a thought but I hope you feel better.

Is it possible to have someone cover for you for an hour or so if you need to leave early? In that case I dont see why they wouldnt let you leave in an emergency case like this when your child is sick. We do it all the time where I work, I often cover for mothers if they have to leave early if I can. You could also work something out, like they will cover for you one day, and then another day you can let them leave early when you are able to do that. I say, if you like the ped, keep him.

My ped's last appointment is at 5:45 which I can only manage to do 2 days of the week and it is tight to get there on time, so I understand the fustration there. But I like my ped so I deal with it, Usually I can take less lunch at work and leave early. Is that an option by you?

You guys have great advice, I hate to say it but sometimes my job isnt like that. Noone wants to cover for anyone and we were told a while ago that were werent able to skip lunch and leave early.
I work in a litigation law firm where there are tons of deadlines. And when these attorneys need something they need something.
I defintely think i need a change. Ive been at the same firm for 7 1/2 years.

I do call. Im talking about well visits too. There are some things I have my mom do, but there is so much a 62 year old can handle when it come to a baby. My mom is helping out at the end of the month and bring Paige to get her flu shot. So I try to make other accomodations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

Thats a shame that noone will cover for you in an emergency. I mean, its only an hour or so. If its a policy that they cant that is one thing, but I cant believe nobody would want to help a mother out when she really needs it. Shame on the employers for being so inflexible. I hope you are able to work something out!
