Affordable 55+ Communities
My mom is in way over her head with her house. She is 77 years old and divorced. I'm looking into helping her sell her house but I'd also like to get her into a 55 and over community. Anything I look into is so expensive. She is on a limited income but she could use the sale of her house to put towards an apartment. Any suggestions on affordable communities in Suffolk County? TIA!

Going through something similar with my mom now.
Check out LIHP.ORG to see if she qualifies for an affordable unit.

also Courthouse Commons in Central Islip.
My mlaw and my aunt both own there. they love it. I know CI sometimes gets a bad rap, but its right next to Ducks Stadium and the Courthouse. Very Safe.

I actually looked there for my mom! She wanted something that had more of a "house" feel. I really liked it there for her though.

Check out Leisure Knoll, Leisure Glen, and Leisure Village. They're all in Ridge and all have their own feel. I live around the corner from them. They're very nice and have some very affordable units.

Bretton woods in Coram. It's not a 55 and over but it is very active with the older community. My parents have been there for 20 years and they have a better social life than me lol. It is not too expensive either.

My father just bought in the pines of Bohemia. It’s brand new. He loves it. I wouldn’t say it’s inexpensive but compared to others out there it is.
