You should look into home daycare I was a licensed provider for years and I use to really try to keep it affordable. Much cheaper than you are paying.

Did you ask what they charge for 2? Most places give 10% off for a sibling - not that it's a lot, but closer to $2600 for you. Also, could John's cost go down again by then? If the cost of daycare is an issue, could you wait until he's closer to kindergarten so you don't have 2 in daycare for too long?

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
you know what gets me? How MUCH daycares charge, and yet how LITTLE the teachers earn I understand they've got bills to pay as well as salaries, but still. It's frustrating. I'm sorry I can't be much help. I wonder if a home daycare would cost a little less.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
don't give away your financials here obviously, but see if you qualify for any sliding scale programs or discounts.
the cost of day care is insane. it's prohibitive. and I imagine so much of that cost is eaten by insurance

If it makes you feel any better, I priced out a center near my office in midtown and it is $2500+/month for one infant, full time. (and they have a waitlist!!)

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
linda, i ve heard great things about wind and willow on here, and also about our redeemer. day care is ridic. i want to go to work but its just not worth it because i would be paying justfor daycare in a way... its crazy. but check out other places and see if they give discounts. i know my cousin pleaded with them because she couldnt afford it and had to work and they lowered her rate... otherwise, like pp mentioned, in home as long as you trust them.. gl!

We use an in home provider as well. For my 2.5 year old, it's $900 per month. I'm not sure how much my newborn will be, but she promised me it won't double.
Are there other moms on your street who you can ask? We actually found our babysitter by talking to my MIL's neighbor.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
I know I don't post much - but I am in your area and was in the same situation. We LOVED Teachers Pet on Washington Ave in Plainview - it had an indoor gym, outside playground and was clean with a low ratio....of course then we moved to the south shore. Hope this helps!
