age 3 - needs to go for an opthomology appointment - BTDT moms?
So, Cailen tested poorly on the eye chart. When he was right under it, he identified the various shapes on the lower lines, but when he had to wlak back, he couldn't make out anything except for the top 2 lines!
He will be seeing Dr. Gerontis next month. It will be a 2 hour appointment where she will dilate his pupils. They told me he will have blurry vision for 24 hours after
Anyone else go through this? Do you know the doctor? Anything that would help me?
I know in the grand scheme of things - it's not the biggest deal. And if he needed glasses that it wouldn't be a big deal either. But I love his face the way it is, and I love his big brown eyes. The thought of him needing to wear glasses is making me sad
I have seen some cuties on here with glasses and think they are adorable, so I know if he needed them they would be cute on his little face, but still

I don't know the Dr. you mentioned, but, Bry's Dr. is in Plainview and we did this with him right after his 2nd Bday. It really wasn't that bad. I think we were there an hour or 90 mins. The waiting room had toys (Thank Gosh) and that kept him busy.

I took my son to see Dr. Gerontis when he was about 6 months old. Wasn't so bad then, because he was young. We liked Dr. Gerontis, would definitely go back to her if we needed to. Good luck

Liza, we're going through this same process with Benjamin now.
We actually brought him to Dr. Cossari in Port Jefferson and he was excellent. Benjamin was blinking a LOT so we thought maybe he was having trouble seeing. It turns out the blinking is a nervous tick that he'll outgrown. We did discover he's far sighted, just like his Daddy, and needs to wear glasses. We had him fitted for the frames and he looks absolutely adorable.
I was devastated when the doctor told me about his need for glasses because my mind when automatically to "what if he gets picked on or bullied at school?" and "He's only 3!". My DH has been wearing glasses since age 5 and the doctor told us what could happen if Ben didn't start now.
Benjamin doesn't do well with doctors to begin with so his appointment was a bit torturous. He actually didn't scream too bad at the eye drops but had more of an issue with the exam itself because the room is pitch black with just a small light the doctor uses. We were there for about 2 hours and ended up going back another day with DH to pick out the frames because it was just too much for one day.
I'm sure Cailen will do just fine. FM me if you want to talk.

We're about to go through the same thing.
Do they get kickbacks from this guy?

We had to take DD about 1 month ago or so when she was 9 months old. They did a vision screening at the ped's office and referred us to an opthamologist. We were a little worried but after the exam the dr basically told us she may or may not need glasses in the future due to a slight astigmatism.

Both my kids have been to the ophthalmologist. J already even had surgery to unblock his tear duct. We went to Dr. Cossari in Port Jeff, and he was great. Neither of them have any kind of vision or strabismus problems that we can see yet, but they'll both go back when they are 3.

Both my dc wear glasses. Both were 6yrs old when they needed them. It was no shock to dh and me considering we both are blind without our glasses. LOL. My dc dont see your eye doc mentioned. But they have both had there eyes dialated a couple of times. It was no big deal. And neither one of them minded it. I just suggest bringing him a pair of sunglasses on the day its done cause the sun can hurt his eyes that day. Other then that, its nothing to worry about.

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone!!!
I have perfect vision - in fact - my vision is superior (ooooh lah lah) - better than 20/20! And Dh has no vision issues so this came as a shock to me. DH's daughters have vision issues, but their mom has very severe vision problems so I figured it came from that side of the family....
