Age differences (your kids and your siblings)

Just curious-
if you have 2 or more kids OR yourself (or DH) is from a 2 or more child family,

What is the age difference?

How do you feel about it?

I'm the youngest of 2, my brother is 3 yrs and 11 mos older than me- in school we were 4 yrs apart. In HS he graduated in June, I started in Sept - I thought it was cool b/c all the teachers remembered the family name. Also there were ALOT of "4yr" silblings (one in my class one in my brothers.)

My DH is oldest of 3. He and his sister are almost 11 mos apart Chat Icon and their younger brother is 2 yrs younger than SIL.

i don't have 2 kids yet but my siblings are 2 years older and 2.5 years younger (3 in school)

based on that i want my kids 2 years apart - i was closer to my older brother because we had more in common growing up

Re: Age differences (your kids and your siblings)

I am 3.5 years older than my younger brother. (4 years apart in school)

My DS is 2 years 3 months older than DD.

Growing up, my brother and I were never in the same school. When I finished high school, he just started, when I got out of college, he was just starting. I feel like if we had been closer in age, maybe we would have had a closer relationship. Don't get me wrong, I love my brother to death, but we were not the closest growing up. We were always in different stages of life.

I'm curious to see how things go with DD and DS... how close they will be.

Both me and my DH have only 1 sibling each and me and my brother are 21 months apart and him and his brother are like 22 months apart. We only have one DD right now, but I like the 2 year age difference.

My sister and I are 13 months apart, then our brother is 6 years younger than me. Mom thought Caz was the "flu".Chat Icon

My DH has 4 brothers and sisters, his older brother and sisters are all within 2 years of each other, then DH is 8 years younger than his older sister, and 8 years OLDER than his younger brother.

DH was an "oops" and younger BIL was a "change of life" baby.

I wanted my kids close in age, so we have 3 in 3 years.

My girls are 23 months apart. I'm an only child, but DH has a brother they are 4 years apart and he hates it. Growing up all he remembers is his brother telling him that he was too little to join in etc, they took his brother to things he had to sit home for. He wishes that they were closer in age and feels they would be much closer today if they had been less than a 4 year difference. I know several people who had 4-6 years difference and said that they were not as close to their siblings growing up b.c of the difference. Every family is different though - and being close in age doesn't mean that they WILL get along but I think when they are closer in age they do tend to have a closer relationship from what I have observed in family and friends.

Re: Age differences (your kids and your siblings)

My sister and I are 7 1/2 years apart. It was really terrific - no competition whatsoever! By the time she was old enough to play with toys, I was ready to give her my old toys and play with her and teach her. We are practically in different generations and we always have lots to talk about. I like to think she keeps me young -- I have DH and a SS and when I visit her, she takes me out to clubs and I feel like I am a youngun' again!

Re: Age differences (your kids and your siblings)

Sister and I are 3 years apart. Never hung out with each other, had no common friends, and basically lived as roommates growing up. No real "relationship". I was older and she was trouble Chat Icon

My first 2 are 20 months apart and there is 2 years between # 2 and # 2.

I always wanted them close in age so that they would be friends AND siblings, not at all like me and my sister.

Re: Age differences (your kids and your siblings)

I am an only child.
Dh is one of six. The ages have HUGE ranges (a 20 year difference between the youngest and the oldest)

Jack was 27 months old when Tyler was born.

We will MAYBE try for another one when Tyler is around 15months or so.

My DD and DS are 23 months apart.

My siblings are as follows
Chat Icon 40
Chat Icon 39
Chat Icon 38
and me
Chat Icon 30 (almost 31)

I am very close with my siblings now but growing up I felt like an only child, this is why I wanted my babies closer in age.

my brother was very smart, and the majority of our school years together, we were in the same classes.

dh is dyslexic and was held back in 1st grade. spend the rest of his school years in a class with his brother.

Chat Icon nothing in us wanted our babies a year apart(we were also no where near ready for another that close)

my boy turned 3 in Dec, had my baby girl in Feb.

love their 3 year age difference. He has his own things going on, when he is in school, it will be me and her alone for awhile, doing her things.

they will have a few years in school together.

My brother and I are 2.5ish years apart which I think is nice.

Steve has a twin brother and 3 older brothers. The closest besides his twin is 2 years older, the other two are maybe 4-8 years older.
