AHHH We are chickening out!!! **UPDATE AT BOTTOM***

DH and I are chickening out of buying the 70's house...IM soooo freaking out and we both have gut feelings that we shouldnt do this...we dont think its a wise move financially. So now we have to see if we can get out of contract. We signed it but the house is in a living trust so as long as the contract was not signed we are in the clear. If it was signed then we have a problem...cross your fingers for us PLEASE!!!

No we're going to redo our kitchen and bathroom and add on a family room Chat Icon

So Gabrielle we'll still be neighbors!!!

Awesome I am so glad you are doing this instead - your house is sooo much nicer than that house.....I know that house is old, but I mean the work you put into it and how open it is - Now all you need to do is enjoy it

Re: AHHH We are chickening out!!!

Kathy,

If it doesn't feel right, no matter how many other appealing factors there are then don't do it.

I can't tell you how many houses I looked at in DIAMOND condition that I just didn't likeChat Icon when other people would have given their right arm for. I just couldn't picture myself there.

Our current house, and it is very cheap for us to live here as it is small and DH bought it in 1998, has never felt like home to me. DH lived here with his ex-wife and yes, repainting every room, gutting the kitchen and changing a lot has helped but I have had my moments when I get creeped out by the ghosts of their relationship here. I just wonder about what fight took place in the living room and ugh, the bedroom... let's not go thereChat Icon the house is in great condition.

Many of you would think I was crazy to buy my "new" house. I affectionately call it the "disaster house". Cosmetically it is BEYOND but it has very good bones, I LOVE the neighborhood and the layout. I think I'd rather have a fixer upper because then I can really make it my own. DH's dad is also a semi-retired contractor so I feel more comfortable about him overseeing the project for us. My MIL said we will be changing every nail. The important thing for us is that it will be OUR place, it's my dream home and I'm never happy unless I have a MAJOR life project going on.

It makes sense what you are doing for you as much as it makes sense as to what I'm doing for us. Every situation is different and you have to do what's right for you.

That being said you'll have a lot more free time... want to come over and help usChat Icon Just kidding.

good for you! I think you should always follow your instinct!
FI and I just backed out a deal (not in contract yet).. at first I was sad, but so many things were pointing to the direction that we shouldn't buy that house, now I don't feel bad about the decision at all!

You have to make the decision that is best for the both of you. If staying in your house is best for you then that's what you should do.

You've put so much into your current house and it's gorgeous- as someone in the middle of working on a house now, if I had a gorgeous house that was in great shape like yours it would have been near impossible to leave for one that needed to be worked on AGAIN!

Re: AHHH We are chickening out!!!

Im glad that you and DH have decided to back out. If you both had this gut feeling not to, then it was a wise decision. Your current house is beautiful. Do you really need this added stress on re-doing the older house and trying to TTC??
You have a lot of room in your back if you wanted to expand.

We loved the location (dead end and in the town we live in and love) and also a bigger house, bigger garage...but it just doesnt make sense to stap ourselves financially and buy a house that needs SO much updating...especially when we're trying to start a family.

Re: AHHH We are chickening out!!!

We're still waiting to hear from the attorney who has power of atty as far as signing the contract. Cross your fingers for us!!

Thanks for all the support guys!! Really! DH and I feel SOOOO much better just making the decision to back out of this house. We actually slept well for the first time in about a week!

We're gonna stay in our house, which we do love, and redo the kitchen and convert the attached garage into a family room with sliding doors out to a pation in the back yard. I also might want to redo the bathroom - if DH will agree Chat Icon

I will keep you all posted!! Im SOOOO ANXIOUS to hear back from them!!
