Air Conditioning and Baby
Will you have baby sleep in air conditioning? If so how will you dress them?
Also ceiling fans...not a big deal? Do you use them with baby?

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
We have talked about this -- and don't know what we should do. The AC in the living room probably won't cool down her room enough and it's an upstairs apartment so it'll need to be cooled down -- so maybe we'll put in a window fan and just keep her door open so she'll get some of the AC air as well.
We'll probably keep her in footy PJs if it gets cool, I guess it'll depend on how cold it gets.
I'm curious about what everyone else has to say about this.

I am curious in the answers as well. We have forced air heat and are debating putting in a central air system. Is this bad for the baby?

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
Well we have a huge AC downstairs so it pretty much cools off the whole area, but upstairs we have a AC in our bedroom, but none in Julia's room and it gets pretty hot up there, so the office is next to her room, and my DH is going to put a AC in that room so it wont be to cold for her and she will get the cool air. ETA: we will have her in footsie PJ's

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
Isabella will have to have air conditioning in her room, since we are on an accessible floor here in Long Beach and her room is in the back...I don't feel comfortable leaving her windows open...
We will have a small AC placed in the farthest window from her crib and it will be on power-saver which keeps it cool...but not too cool
At least this is the idea.
ETA: we will have her in footie pajamas...

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
For the most part, we used fans instead of airconditioning. I would dress them in a long sleeved pjs for nighttime and leave a fan on. If it was really hot out, we'd put the AC on. It was tough because neither of my kids wanted to be swaddled, which would have helped them stay warm while sleeping.
My pediatrician explained that babies have a lot less fat than an adult. They should have one more layer of clothes on then you. I still think unless it's extremely hot out, babies should wear some type of leggings.
My preference would definitely be central AC since it's not a blast of cold air in one location of the house.

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
we have central a/c and it's great because Alyson is always hot, so she prefers the cooler temperatures and we run the ceiling fan on low in our bedroom

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
I have a strange phobia of ceiling fans so I have been slowly removing them from my house. The original homeowners must have loved them. We have 2 ACs downstairs and one up stairs in our room. We leave our door open and put up a curtain for about 2 hours to cool down her room. After that her room stays comfy.

Re: Air Conditioning and Baby
we have central ac and i plan on using it. i'd rather dress him in warm pjs than be sweating all day and night! the vent is on the other side of the room from his crib so i think he will be fine. right now since it's not hot enough for the ac but his room still gets a little warm especially with him swaddled i occasionally put on the ceiling fan.

Jacobs room is right across from ours so we will crank up our AC and let it cool his room too. We also have ceiling fans so that will help to circulate the air. I def dont want his windows open at night. Depending on "how hot" it is, i will use light feetie pj's or a onesie and a sleep sack. We'll see i guess.

We live in Texas and we use our A/C like "year" round. We also have a ceiling fan in every room to help the air stay circulated, so that we don't have to have the A/C on to low. I dress DS (since birth) in long sleve/pant onsies & undershirt for bedtime and even swaddle with blanket. Both are okay for a baby to be in, as long as they are dressed appropriately.
