Re: Airline miles
We have the Delta Skymiles card from Amex. You can also get miles from a regular Amex. I don't know what the difference is. We paid no fee for the firts year, and we pay $85 a year or something for the platinum card, with it we get triple miles and a companion fare every year.
My BIL has the regular Amex and he has a lot of miles, and he was going to give some to us for our recent trip, but in order to book it, we had to pay $100 per ticket b;/c it was within 20 days, otherwise it would have been free.

Re: Airline miles
My family uses American. Actually, my mom let us use her miles to fly to Hawaii for our HM. We also used the same miles to fly my aunt from San Francisco to NY to see my father before he passed and they were very accommodating. In addition, 3 of us kids used the same miles to fly back and forth to Dallas to take care of my mother when she fell last December. the woman had over 300,000 miles. One of them had been a round trip and wasnt used for the return as my sister had to fly in the medivac with mom. American reinstated the miles (with proof) but they did it.

Re: Airline miles
DH just got a citi card which gives him american airlines points. I think the first years fee was waived. We also both a card for Marriot Hotel points and were able to use them for our honeymoon.
