Alaskan Cruise
We are so psyched - just got our cruise package for our Alaskan Cruise on Princess, July 29- Aug. 8. We go to Denali, then Whittier - stops in Juneau, Skgway and Ketchikan.
My first cruise.
First time in Alaska.
Can anyone tell me what CLOTHES I need?? Really need a formal gown and DH a tux?? Since we are going to be doing the activities off the ship, we are brining a lot of rough and tough clothes - do we need to dress up every night for dinner on the cruise?
Can anyone recommend excursions in the three ports? We actually booked the Pilot's Choice Ice Age Excursion directly with the ooperator in Juneau (cheaper than with the cruise line) - any other must-sees??
Thanks....

Re: Alaskan Cruise
I don't have any tips - I've never cruised - but I just wanted to wish you a FABULOUS time!!!
I'm not into cruises - but the one I would go on would be to Alaska. It just seems so amazing.....

Re: Alaskan Cruise
I went to Alaska several years ago with my parents. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with DH. We are going August 13-20.
The weather is still cold. Especially while outside when the ship is moving. Sweaters, different weight jackets. The key is layering. One day it was 40 the next it actually went up to 70. Solid shoes and rain gear. Ketchikan has like 10 days a year without rain.
As far as dressing up for dinner, they usually put specifics in the information packet. I went on Royal Carribean the first time and they asked for women to wear nice slacks or dress and men long pants and a collared shirt. Some cruises have formal nights that require a nice cocktail dress and suit or tux for the man.
I loved floating down the river in Skayway. You go through a bald eagle preserve. I went kayaking in the rain in Ketchikan and had a blast. It was a great way to see the city because it is built on both sides of the river.
Hope this helps!!! Have a great time!!!

Re: Alaskan Cruise
As far as formal night goes, DH and I did a Princess cruise to the Eastern Carribbean last month and I wore a cocktail dress and he wore a suit. No need to get super formal, unless you really want to. On the other nights, if you eat in the dining room, you can wear a skirt or nice dress pants and a blouse. DH can wear a collared shirt and khakis (or, you can just eat at the buffets and wear whatever you want )
Let us know how the cruise goes! On our Carribbean cruise, all the people that we met said that the Alaskan cruise is their absolute favorite!
