Alec Baldwin publicly apologizes
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20036045,00.html
Alec Baldwin apologized Friday for his angry voicemail to his daughter, blaming the stress of his custody fight with Kim Basinger and insisting: "I have a normal relationship with my daughter."
"I'm sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child," the actor wrote on his Web site. "I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. (Although I hope you never do.) I am sorry for what happened."
He added: "I have endured a great deal over the last several years in my custody litigation. Everyone who knows me privately knows that certain people will go to any lengths to embarrass me and to disrupt my relationship with my daughter."
Baldwin posted his comments on his site's guest book under the heading "Alec responds to your comments" a day after the leak to TMZ.com of a voicemail message from Baldwin to his and Basinger's 11-year-old daughter, Ireland.
The message had been contained in a sealed court file in the former couple's three-year custody fight over the girl, who lives with her mother in Los Angeles.
Baldwin's reps have blamed Basinger's camp for the leak. Basinger's rep says only, "The voicemail speaks for itself."
"I am sorry for what happened," Baldwin wrote on his Web site. "But I am equally sorry that a court order was violated, which had deliberately been put under seal in this case. Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child," he wrote.
He said that in high-profile cases, "your opponents attempt to take a picture of you on your worst day and insist that this is who you are as a person. Outside the doors of divorce court, I have friends, I have respect from people I work with and I have a normal relationship with my daughter. All of that is threatened whenever one enters a courtroom."
He said he would be writing about the "incredible strains created by parental alienation" in a book, but "in the meantime, I'm sorry to anyone who's taken offense from this episode."

if bassinger's camp did leak it, that is so wrong. the only person that would get hurt in all of this will be that little girl

how horrible. horrible that he has to explain himself to the PUBLIC. horrible that his daughter will be subject to this. horrible that his ex-wife seems to be a vengful b1tch hell bent on not only keeping him from his child, but also doing her damndest to tarnish his image in the public.
I am sorry some of you are so offended by what he said. but I imagine it is hard to parent a child, or instill values in a child, that you hardly hear from or see.
Kim is the main guardian, and she is the main "example" so the childs behavior is more of a reflection on Kim, than it is on Alec, big temper and all.

I tend to agree.
But I also haven't heard the tape because I'm just not interested in the messiness of their lingering issues.

I agree to an extent. But regardless of who is raising her, she should never be called a pig. Some of those things were very harsh. And kids don't forget that.
Maybe that should have been directed more toward Kim.

you know, what we heard was most likely a culmination of 3 years of frustration..and yes, he probably misdirected his anger at Kim onto his daughter.
I hope, that if I have a child and dh and I split (and he lives to tell about it ) that I will have enough sense and respect to but problems with him aside for the sake of the child, rather than use the child as a pawn.
I've only seen Kim do that so far, but Alec gets crucified.
it's just not right.

I agree too. We all have those moments when we lose it. Its not right, but it happens. If this is an isolated incident, it is something that a parent and child can get past. When the public is not involved its so much harder.
And OF COURSE Kim leaked it. Who else had motive and opportunity? Its disgusting that she would be her vengance against Alec and humiliate her daughter like this.

Completely agree....he flew off the handle....but I'm sure he's been pushed to the edge. I feel bad for all involved because it only makes matters worse for everyone, especially that little girl.

See, this was none of our business to begin with. I actually feel bad that everyone is playing it. Bad for the girl b/c all the kids at school, their parents and the teachers heard it. Bad for him b/c it makes him look like an even bigger a$$ than he really is and this hurts his work as as advocate for fathers' rights.
It's not like a sex tape between consenting adults that if it is leaked, well, you're an idiot for trusting it with an ex-boyfriend. This is a private phone call and that is truly illegal.

Re: Alec Baldwin publicly apologizes
I just heard the message - Fox news played it.
first - Kim Bassinger is an A-HOLE for leaking it! she should have given it directly to her lawyer to give to the judge! she is under a gag order, which has now been violated!
second - Alec is even more of an A-HOLE for leaving a HORRIBLE message like that to his daughter. HOW AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how can ANY parent call his daughter a worthless and rude pig?!

Yes, he does have to explain himself to the public that's the downside to being a "celebrity". It's all part of the game. You lose your "personal life" due to it but instead you make millions of dollars.
IF Kim leaked it to the news, yes she's an azz but the bottom line (IMHO) is that what she did does not exonorate him from what he said to his kid.

this, IMO, is a sad bunch of crap.
you are saying (and not just you, this view seems to be largely held) that b/c he makes a lot of money at his JOB, which he happens to be an actor, that he cannot, as a person/husband/father expect a modicum of privacy in the most personal and intimate of matters?
so, if you make more money than I do, more of your dirty laundry is up for grabs, be aired to the world?
I am sorry, but I have to humbly disagree with you.
they don't "owe" us their personal lives b/c we contribute $12 a few times a year to their earnings.

It's fine that you disagree with me. However, I think you missed my point a bit. I don't feel him being in the spotlight has anything to do with how much money he makes. It is his job and "celebrity status" that causes him to be in the media and as such I feel he has a responsibility to deal with it and remember, his life is always on camera.
But, he made the choice to live this kind of life when he chose to be a movie actor and worked hard to get his mug on the camera and become a celebirty. Unfortunately, it's the downside of his career. Of course the perk is that he makes milliions of dollars, which was what I was saying (or at least trying to say) before.
With the life he leeds, I think it is his responsibilty to act like a civilized adult so that he doesn't make himself look bad. It's no secret that Kim Bassinger will do anything to make him look bad, so WHY would he put himself out there???
Not to mention my original point, back in the other thread which was that he is this child's father. No parent should say the things he said to her. Personally, I feel, that what he said was borderline abusive.
If she's not behaving the way a child should toward their parent then deal with it. But calling her a worthless pig is NOT how you treat your child. IMO.
And please refrain from calling my opinion "a sad bunch of crap" not once did I personally attack you so please offer the same respect to me. Thanks!

Proving yet again, that NEITHER of them deserves this child. Clearly neither of them understands what "the best interest of the child is." It's quite pathetic, and my heart goes out to the child.
Alec was definitely wrong, but Kim was just as wrong. He leaves that message, fine. Kim should have quietly recorded it and handed it to her attorney immediately as evidence of the next round of custody hearings. The child never had to know that it even existed. Instead, Kim in a spiteful way - publicly airs it - and accomplishes what???? Humiliates her daughter.
Totally disgusting behavior all around!
