Alimentum - RTF or powder?

We tried the Alimentum powder last week for a few days, but DS would not drink it at all... Is there a big difference between powder and RTF alimentum? We go to the Dr. on Tuesday, who will prolly change us to Neocate after we get DS test results back, but just wanted to see if anybody has any luck on one form of Alimentum over the other... Thanks!

I don't think there is any difference. My Dr. had given me sampes of the RTF, and the only difference I've seen is that DD seems to drink down the RTF faster. We use mainly the powder and I keep the RTF cans in my diaper bag if I have to feed her when I'm out. She seems to want more than she usually eats when I give her the RTF.

Re: Alimentum - RTF or powder?

What I was told was Powder can cause more gas in the baby, and shouldnt be given until they reach a certain age (no clue what age that is). My dd is on Alimentum now, we have only used the RTF... If she remains on and insurance ends up denying to pay for, then in a few months we will switch to powder b/c its cheaper. (dd is 3m old tues.)

But if insurance does end up paying, we asked for RTF, just for convience of having to make.. tho powder in my experience with my older dd, powder is sometimes easier b/c you can use room temp water and not have to worry about heating up.

I don't think that is true about the powder, I mean, Gentlease is made for gassiness and it ONLY comes in powderChat Icon

Gentlease is not the same as Alimentium (DD was on Gentlease, and the Dr. had me switch to Alimentium)

With that said, I also don't think that's true about the powder, DD has been on Alimentium (powder) since she was switched to it at 7 weeks, and her gas issues went away.

The powder did not sit well with my ds AT ALL!!!! He spit up more, was gassy and a bit fussier.

The RTF was much better for him, thicker and he wasn't spitting up as much. Chat Icon

Re: Alimentum - RTF or powder?

DD was always pickier with powdered, so we've only used RTF. We go out all the time and I haven't had a problem with the temp.

There is a slight difference in the RTF and powder ingredients. The powder has corn in it, which can create an issue for some kids that have a milk allergy.
