Alimentum is not helping DD! Where to go from here?

DD has been on Similac, Isomil, and now Alimentum, and she's still has bloody stool, extreme discomfort, rash on her neck and ears, and now vomits. We are going to the pediatrician today (thank god he is seeing ERs on the holiday); We've been on the Alimentum for 5 days, and no luck. From speaking with MD on the phone, he doesn't sound like he's open to other formulas, and said that Alimentum is extremely mild...he's thinking possible parasite.

Of course we are getting a stool culture tomorrow to rule out parasites, but from all the reading I've done, this sounds like an allergy to the formula, and there are other options out there.

Anyone have similar experiences and what formula provided relief from these symptoms?

DS had similar symptoms. He is on neocate and it works well for us. He was on regular formula for the first 5 days, then ped. switched us to neocate and it has been a 100% turnaround. Good luck!!

Re: Alimentum is not helping DD! Where to go from here?

We went through 7 formulas until we reached neocate- it was a lifesaver!! We had a totally different baby once we started it.

It is totally different from allimentum(sp?0 because it has no milk protein at all so if DC has a true milk allergy it's definitely the way to go!

Like I said in your other post, DS was on it for over a year so if you have any questions just FM!

Elecare or Neocate!!! It should be covered by your insurance. Sounds like a milk protein allergy. Nothing but this formula worked for my dd.

Wow - if it was an allergy to formula then Allimentum would do the trick bc it is hypoallergenic. I think it is one of the most mild formulas there is. Good luckChat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon DS did better on soy formula than he did on Nutramigen. alimentum and nutramigen are still milk based

Actually Allimentum & Nutragiman (sp?) still contain milk proteins. They are just broken down more to be easier to digest.Neocate & Elecare are truly Hypoallergeinic. They are amino acid based not milk based.
