All I can say about babies that fight sleep...is UGH.
I'm beyond words right now......
I spent 45 minutes crying on the phone to DH who is in the city on business and staying in a hotel so he doesn't have to contend with traffic every day

I know how you feel! I put my son in a miracle blanket and he fights to get out of it for at least 15 minutes... after that it takes another 30 min for him to finally fall asleep...

Re: All I can say about babies that fight sleep...is UGH.
Have you tried the way the five s's in the happiest baby on the block works?
I find I have to really do them ALL for Noah to go down when he is fighting it.
I swaddle him first, and hold him in a side hold sorta, not flat on his back , sideways in my arms and I start to jiggle him a little.
Then I start shushing , and if hes crying, I do it LOUDLY near his ear...
Then once he stops crying, I give him the pacifier and I continue to jiggle him.
Usually he is content to suck on the pacifier and stop crying within 15 minutes.
I may not get him to go down right away, I sometimes have to continue to hold him for a bit, but so far its worked every time....

You would not believe the tactics I use to get my 1-year-old to take a nap. It's totally ridiculous. But I've finally found something that works, so I stick with it! DD only slept in her swing for the first 7 months- I was so upset by this, but it worked! 12 hours straight sleep in that damn swing.
Just go with what works! Good luck!

I have not read the book, but I guess we have used some of the tactics (what are all 5?) I swaddle TIGHT, then hold him sort of sideways close to me, shush in his ear, and sway or actually walk around.

Re: All I can say about babies that fight sleep...is UGH.
Oh god, I remember those days so clearly - Alex was the most difficult sleeper in the world. It would take me at least an hour to do everything humanly possible to get her to fall asleep and then the second I put her in the crib she would wake up and cry
Some babies are just made that way - if it's any consolation, this is showing that your little DS is one stubborn, strong-willed little fellow - which, as a newborn is a pain in the neck, but as an adult, will serve him quite well

Re: All I can say about babies that fight sleep...is UGH.
Talia fought sleep since day 1! Then she would cry hysterically because she was tired - it was awful.
This may sound weird - but one thing that worked well with her was to lay her in my arms - bop her up and down and pat her butt. They say it mimicks the sound and pattern of the mothers heartbeat and relaxes them - worth a try!
eta: It will pass - I promise!!

READ THE BOOK or get the DVD. Even if you know it, the basics, it helped soooo much. I think it should be a must read.
