All the testing that comes with pregnancy
I know I asked this before because jess(davenjess) helped me out by answering it all,but when I do a search on my name it says there are no posts from me???
Anyway can anyone again(sorry) tell me when you have all these tests done? The one I'm scared of (I'm such a baby) is the finger prick. When is that one? I heard it hurts!
Someone warn me what I'm in for and which ones hurt? Again I'm a chicken and don't know how I'm going to make it through labor! Ill prob have a very funny birth story

i'm 18 weeks, 4 days and so far, none have hurt. The GD 1 hour one stunk, because i felt like garbage afterwards, but i have not had a single finger prick test (though because i failed my GD test, i'll start doing that to MYSELF daily)....all the tests have been tubes of blood...

Re: All the testing that comes with pregnancy
None of them hurt! Remember, you went through IVF and all those self injections! All the pregnancy testing is a piece of cake and walk in the park compared to IVF!!!
Between 11-13 weeks, Ultrascreen. That is part sono and part bloodwork (sorry, it's a finger prick!)
Between 16-18 weeks - AFP, which is part 2 of the Ultrascreen - that's a regular blood draw. Tests for Spina Bifida and Nueral Tube Deficency
20 weeks thereabouts - Level II - which is just an Ultrasound.
Between 26-28 weeks - 1 hour glucose test. If you fail, then you need to take the 3 hour test.
Between 35-37 weeks - Strep B test. They'll take a swab during your first internal exam to test for this bacteria.
Some Drs. do growth sono's I think around 32 weeks, but I don't think it's really the norm.

Re: All the testing that comes with pregnancy
I'm 19.5 weeks and the only finger prick one was for my Level I part I test. It didn't hurt though.

How come you had the GD test so early?

because of my strong family history. My mom has diabetes, had GD and my dad is borderline (he's tested every year now). Everyone on my mom's side of the family is diabetic and i've been tested every year for diabetes since i turned 21....so based on that...the doc wanted me to have it done early.
