Allergy season
What allergy med do you use for your 4 yr old?
Thanks!
DS just started and woke up with a runny nose. I know it's allergies bc he gets them every year. I gave him Allegra this morning, but didn't seem to do much. Not sure if he needs to do it s few times for it to really work. Thanks

Re: Allergy season
I find with Allegra even for myself I need to use it a few days for it to really kick in. Once it does - it's all I use - I never have a problem with my allergies after that.

Takes a while to kick in...but I stopped using it and have been giving John elderberry syrup every morning...he's been doing great.

Allergy season
DS is almost 3 and he gets Zyrtec. We tried Allegra, but didn't do much for him.

Re: Allergy season
Claritin before bed. We used to use Zyrtec but when it was recalled we switched. I like Zyrtec better but Claritin does he job.

Re: Allergy season
We use both claritin as well as benedryl.
Claritin in the AM half a tsp for 12hrs of coverage.. then i will hold off on more until i see how she's doing. If she's suffering I will give her benedryl
All generic Walmart/Target brands.
Zyrtec did nothing for her (then that batch was recalled) and Allegra works but makes her cranky.

Re: Allergy season
I decided to take DS to the allergist bc I wanted to know what he was actually allergic to (tree pollen, grass pollen, etc). Really glad I did bc it turns out his allergies are pretty severe. The allergist, Dr. Marchlewski, who I thought was great, recommened DS (age 3.5) be given Nasonex (a nasal spray) and he's doing great. Today I'm sneezing and have a runny nose, DS has nothing. But Nasonex isn't the type of medicine you can give sporatically, it must be used every day consistently for it to work.

I use Nasonex for myself and it works great, but I didn't know we can use it on kids as well.

Re: Allergy season
I have been using Claritin for DS since he was 2. Last summer I started to use Zyrtec on his bad days or if we were going to someones house who had pets.. I usually give him a half a dose in the morning and then see how he is at night.. I was giving him Zyrtec up until about 2 weeks ago when he stopped taking it.. He has been a MESS ever since...

Re: Allergy season
Our allergist has DS on Benedryl at night and Zyrtec in the morning. We also use Pataday eye drops
