Alli Diet Pill
Ok I started the All i pill on Monday. I have had no side effects at all, except a little gas but thats it. I have been sticking with a 15 gram or less diet and take in about 900-1000 calories a day. If this doesnt work then Im at a loss. I have been going to the gym a few days a week but when I return to work Tuesday it will be much harder for me to go to the gym.
Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight on the Alii pill and if so have you really been going to the gym like Alli says to do... PLease help?
Not sure if this is working but its only my 4th day

Are you within the pounds it says on the Alli box? I've never taken it--and I am not within the pounds to be eligible to take it--but you look quite slim and I think you may be harming your body by doing this if you don't have much to lose. Maybe check with a doctor.

I agree...and you just had a baby, right? Give your body time...you will lose weight on your own, it takes a while to lost all your pregnancy weight!!

I actually went to the OBGYN today and I lost 2 lbs in 4 days. I dont know if I am in the parimeters to take it, but I guess it is working. Alot of people have been telling me that my uterus is still swollen and that my body needs time to get back to normal. I asked my doctor if that is true and she laughed. She basically felt my uterus and said it went way down a long time ago. "People just say that as an excuse to not loose the weight quick enough". She said "you can only use that for so long." She also said that "there is no reason what so ever that I should not be back to my normal shape and weight." She told me "not to listen to everyone when they tell you that your body needs 9 months to heal. That is B.S. and an EXCUSE!
She said the pill did work because I was 114 on Monday and now 112 on Thursday. My goal is to lose 14 lbs in total. 12 more to go.

FYI you are well below the minimum weight to use Alli and what you are doing is probably not good for your body. The chart below is the minimum height/weight to use the pill.

Well, if I were you I would stop taking the pill immediately and consult a doctor or nutritionist about a healthy way to lose the weight. No doctor would have ever prescribed this for someone at your weight, and I think that's one of the problems with it going to over the counter. It is meant for obese individuals, and the fact that you didn't read the important packaging to know that it is inappropriate for your weight is a sign that you really need to consult a doctor for any other advice.
As for what could happen, you could really be permanently messing with your digestive system since this amount of Orlistat (the drug in alli) is meant to be absorbed by someone weighing much, much more than you.

I doubt an OBGYN would know as much as a specialist in weight or a general physician. I'd check with your primary care physician, and if it were me I would forego using it as a short-cut to weight loss and meet with a nutritionist and consider using a trainer.

I also find it a little weird that an OB-GYN would encourage you to reach your goal weight of 100 lbs. I just checked it out at the Weight Watchers website, and 100 lbs. is the absolute minimum on the spectrum for a woman who is 4'11. Any taller than that, and it's way too skinny, and I can't imagine a doctor chiding you for not trying to lose the pounds and get to that weight.
Anyway, I just checked out your album and you have a BEAUTIFUL family - congratulations!!

you girls got me to chuckle... my obgyn and his nurse- whenever I make comments about my weight they dont ever tell me its a concern yet I was weighting 80lbs Over the maximum weight range for my height on weightwatchers. weight watchers is a great way to lose weight healthy ive lost 20 lbs in a little over 2 months.

Same here. For the past 2 years when I've visited the OBGYN I was about 300 pounds. Each time the doctors told me "You could stand to lose 5 or 10 pounds, maybe you should cut back on your carbs.."  So I would just say OK. Whatever I have to say to get out of there with birth control pills in my hand... whatever you want.
It always made me laugh - I was hoping I could substitute him for my regular doctor, who if I come in for a sniffle tells me that I wouldnt have a sniffle if I wasn't overweight.

I think you're misunderstanding what your doctor said. Or you just need a new doctor. I gained 37 lbs while pregnant which is NORMAL. You're SUPPOSED to gain that much when you're pregnant!!!! If your doctor was telling you that you should watch what you eat so you don't gain too much weight when you're already fairly thin, then something is wrong with your doctor. If a woman is heavy at the time she gets pregnant, that's a different story. THEN the doctor will advise her not to gain too much.
Also, as others said, OB/GYNs specialize in womens' issues. They're not experts on weight loss or diet pills.
Personally I don't think you need to be taking a diet pill to lose weight.
And 900 - 1000 calories is WAY too low. You're starving yourself! At 117 lbs if I wanted to lose weight I'd eat 1600 calories so that's what you should be eating (in addition to exercising).
It worries me when I hear women who just had a baby who are taking pills in order to lose weight as fast as they can. Your body just went through some major trauma and needs time to heal. You'll lose the weight soon enough; just eat right and exercise and the weight will come off.

I had a baby on the same day as you, and I gained over 50 pounds with my pregnancy. My doctor never said a word to me about it being too much weight. When I went for my 6 week PP check-up, I had lost 20 pounds and he said that was great! No mention of me not losing enough. And I was a bit overweight when I got pregnant in the first place.
Nutrition and exercise are the keys to losing weight....not a diet pill (unless there is a health risk involved).

Your doctor telling you that its "BS" that it takes time to lose baby weight is pretty ridiculous. From what you wrote that your doc said, it sounds like its time to find a new one.
I don't think any doctor would encourage you to take that Alli pill with your weight and height noted as well as the fact that you just had a baby.
Seriously..don't take that pill, GIVE YOUR BODY SOME TIME. It took me 3 menstrual cycles after having my baby to start letting go of the weight, and yes i was watching my weight and exercising!!!
Nature has a way of having moms hold onto some fat...give it time, NOT a diet pill and you'll be fine.

How tall are you? I would thing 112 pounds is underweight for most heights. I'm not really understanding how a doctor could encourage you to loose any more weight - especially that you want to go down to 100 pounds. I'm a little confused

As far as being healed at 6 weeks - I definitely DID NOT, I repeat, DID NOT feel healed at 6 weeks. It took MONTHS before I felt normal again. 6 weeks is not a steadfast number that applies to ALL women. If you feel fine then good for you but I did not, and my doctor warned me about doing too much too soon (exercise) because of the risk of perineal prolapse (look it up - it's not fun!!!)
It did not take me 9 months to lose the weight so that part is true (but I only had 15 lbs to lose).
The scariest thing is that she told you that using a diet pill meant for overweight people when you're only 114 lbs is ok.
I think she's just a little cynical and you're taking her words way too seriously.

I agree that the uterine swelling as an excuse for added weight may be an excuse, but any doctor who tells you to "SNAP BACK AND GET TO A NORMAL HEALTHY WEIGHT" after having a baby is just wrong. It's natural to gain weight, and losing weight isn't a "SNAP BACK" process and shouldn't be. Realistically if you did lose weight with Alli you would gain it back as soon as you go off the pill.

Not quite sure what I said that required you to yell back at me...but whatever. Maybe the hunger is getting to you and you're extra-cranky.
Of course the uterus swelling goes down quickly - no one is arguing that. My uterus was fine after 6 weeks. But there is other weight gained during a pregnancy and it may not be lost all that easily. Some people lose weight faster than others.
I think what people are reacting to here is your doctor pushing you to lose weight only 3 months after giving birth when you're not overweight, and you didn't gain a ridiculous amount of weight while pregnant.
And then you trying to use a diet pill to get to that desired weight while ignoring the negative effects it might have on you. The Alli pill is clearly for people who are overweight. You are not. Therefore you should not take it. And any doctor that suggests it is a good idea is clearly incompetant.
But do whatever you want - it's your body.

Well thats all the doctor said,,, I dont know... I just want to fr into my jeans again and Im eating healthy and going to the gym and nothing has seemed to make my stomach go down

The caps imply yelling and can be seen as aggressive writing.
As far as your body fitting back into jeans - that's what every woman who has just had a baby wants! It doesn't happen automatically though...it takes time. And even after eating right and going to the gym....your body might never be in the same shape that it once was.
Having children is stressful on a woman's body, there is no getting around that. Your joints loosen up to prepare for the delivery, your uterus obviously expands, your skin has to stretch out, your muscles seperate to make room for the growing uterus....and those are just some of the things that happen! It takes time for all of those things to reverse themselves.
A diet pill isn't going to help with any of that though - healthy living and time will.

It sounds like you ARE at a normal, healthy weight. I'd run from a doctor who would be ok with a weight loss pill when I wasn't in need of it.
