Am I a bad friend?
My friend gave me a Precious Moments bride figurine for my bridal shower. I don't collect them, and she knows that, but she couldn't figure out what to get me that was "meaningful". She told me she was going to give me the entire bridal party for my wedding gift.
A couple days later, I summoned the courage to tell her that I appreciated her gift and the thought behind it but please don't give me the whole bridal party. My reason was because we were moving to a small apartment in NY and I don't have anywhere to put them.
Now, almost two years later, we are moving to an even smaller apartment. I came across the bride figurine in its box (never displayed) and put it up on Ebay.
Is that bad?
Edited for grammar. I should know better!

where are your other wedding items? Candle and such? Keep it with that. If it was me, I would find the space to store something like that.

I agree. It isn't large to store or display, and if she was a good friend I'd make an effort to put it out when she comes to visit. I would be hurt if a gift I thought a lot about for my best friend was sold on ebay.

Re: Am I a bad friend?
I guess I'm in the minority. The fact that you found it in a box and had forgotten about it tells me that it really doesn't mean much to you. Didn't we all exchange/send back some gifts we got for our wedding? One of the girls in my bridal party got me a vase from Tiffanys and I exchanged it and didn't feel bad about it at all...we weren't going to use it, so I wanted to exchange it for something I could use.
It seems far enough after your wedding where it won't be brought up again....so I would go ahead and sell it.

Re: Am I a bad friend?
eBay it!!!!
I have so much stuff in my house, I can't keep half of it. I appreciate gifts I get, but my house would be a storage bin if I kept everything. The $$ I make when I sell stuff like that I would put back into something useful.

Re: Am I a bad friend?
I would put it on eBay too. If you are not going to put it out on display and you don't really like it why keep it? I guess I am not very sentimental

Re: Am I a bad friend?
I would put it up on ebay- I sell everything I don't need or want anymore
I like to think that I would rather have someone appericate it- then it sit in my closet

Re: Am I a bad friend?
I really don't have a lot of items from our wedding. I refused to buy into the wedding frilly things that only got used once and I'd have to schlep around forever for sentimentality sake.
I would keep it if I thought she had really put some thought into it. She just isn't that type of person. I really believe that the PM figurine was just an "hurry and get something bridal-related" gift.
After I requested that she not get me the bridal party figurines, she asked me what I would really want that would mean something. I told her my cake server set. We registered for silverware at Crate and Barrel and I was going to get the matching cake server set to cut our wedding cake with. She bought it for us and we cut our wedding cake with it, and now we cut birthday cakes with it. In the end, she was happy that she contributed something memorable toward the day and that she got something I really wanted.

re-gift it or sell it. If she ever asks you can explain how it got broken beyond repair while you were moving.
