Am I crazy to attempt this trip?
My kids will be 2, 4 and 5 1/2 when we do this trip (if we do this trip):
Drive from LI to Charlotte, NC to visit friends for a few days. Then from there, drive to Atlanta, GA to see other friends for a few days. Then, drive all the way back to NY. We have a minivan. What do you think?
I did some of the math on it and if my calculations are right, it seems to me the gas would be about $300 - 350 for the entire trip (not counting driving around while there) We will be staying with the friends in each place so no hotels needed.
I would really love to do it but are just wondering if this seems doable...I've never really done any long distance trips, let alone with 3 kids along.
My kids are generally good in the car, but the longest distance we've gone is 3-4 hours. We have a portable DVD player and we have books on CD which my kids love. I'd probably get some more. My oldest gets carsick from workbooks or reading so that's out. But we would obviously try to plan it out where they could sleep.
Any thoughts?

Re: Am I crazy to attempt this trip?
We always traveled in my mother's van...FL to NY then back.
7 kids in 12 years...so we had infants and toddlers on a lot of the trips.
No DVD players...we made the trip twice a year, never a problem.
do it!

Re: Am I crazy to attempt this trip?
We just did a 16 hour car ride to Georgia with a 4 & 6 year old. The best way to do it for us was to get up at 4am & drive straight through. This way you're ending the trip when it's light out.
We had a food packed & made a few stops. I had 2 portable dvd players with car chargers (until one broke), tracing paper, coloring books, doodle pads & a story I could read to them.
When they were finished with that, I told them to look at the window. When they were very antsy, I did stretching excercises with them while they were buckled in the car seat. That helped a lot.

Go for it... Is it just you, or is DH coming too? I probably wouldn't do something like that alone, but with help, it makes it more bearable.
Are you seeing Jeanene?

Re: Am I crazy to attempt this trip?
just like Barb said...when I drive charlotte to NY, I always leave at 4 AM.
Since I do it solo...if I leave then, I don't have to go to gas stations before its light out.
