DH and I are planning to take DS to Myrtle Beach in September when my parents go every year. Are we crazy? We'd be driving.

If anyone has done this, when is the best time to leave? In the evening so the baby sleeps mostly? Is this totally insane?

I've never done it with a 10 month old, but when my kids were 8 weeks we had to make an emergency trip to Binghamton NY because my FIL was sick. The boys slept pretty much the whole way-we stopped to feed and change them onceChat Icon Is your son a good sleeper in the car? The minute my kids get into the car they are out!

We drove with DS around 8 weeks for a 12 + hours drive... we left early in the morning.

We drove to NC when DD was 3 months old and again when she was 8, almost 9 months old. It was a 12-13 hour trip (pre-baby it would take me 11-12).

The trip when she was almost 9 months old was easier. She slept most of the way and did not have to eat as often as she did when she was little. I sat in the back with her-this helped ALOT. Something I did not do on the first trip-big mistake.

We've driven with DD many times since she was 6 weeks old. Our next trip is in May and she is now 20 months (21 months then).

It definitely got tougher once DD became mobile because she didn't want to stay in her seat.

We stop a lot and let her expend some energy. We also try to start out really early or really late to get her to sleep as much as possible.

I don't think you are crazy.

We did it with a one year old and we left as soon as she got up and ate. She was always happy in the morning. We had a dvd player in the car which helped and we stopped a few times to eat and run around for a little bit. It was really fine. I worried for no good reason. You will be fine too!Chat Icon

We did it with a 7 month old.
We drove from NY to Cape Coral, Florida.

We had a portable DVD player and toys and she was as good as gold.

if she got restless, we stopped for a while, stretched her out for a while and then we got back on our way Chat Icon
