Am I crazy to try Montauk tomorrow?
My brother is visiting from Colorado for the week. So far we have visited Port Jeff, Greenport, Orient Point, the vineyards, and stayed home to catch up. Today he is out with his friends on their boat and going to Fire Island. I was thinking that it would be nice to go out to Montauk tomorrow. Am I crazy?? It is his last full day here. On Sunday we are having a BBQ at home before he goes to the airport and heads home.
If we do decide to go any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated. TIA

I would take your chances. A lot of people I know do not do anything over this holiday weekend, preferring to just stay around the house and lounge out.

It's going to be a traffic nightmare. This is the last big weekend in the Hamptons. Remember that everyone will be leaving the Hamptons the same time you will be.
Just reread, you are going tomorrow. It will still be bad. If you go I suggest you are out by Southampton no later than 7pm. I wouldn't come back home to well after dinner. Any other time will make you cry.

i agree...my husband works part of his week out that way...and was out there yesterday and during the day and said it was a nightmare then.

We've gone to Montauk several times during Labor Day and the traffic is just crazy!
Since you want to go Saturday versus Monday - I don't think it will be as bad.
If you can get out there early enough Saturday, you should avoid the mid morning traffic of people going out to breakfast or heading to the beaches.
I would leave later after the dinner rush, since a lot of people go out to eat.
Again, it will be crowded but nothing like how Monday will be trying to get out on a one lane road.

its going to be traffic nightmare all day and night hampton classic going on pow wow in southampton etc unless you leave super early in the am

Clearly I'm in the minority here, but I think if you really want to go, leave early in the morning and plan on spending the day out there. Go to the beach, get lunch and dinner or pack a lunch to eat on the beach and then go out to dinner. Yes, the traffic out there is going to be insane, but it's ALWAYS insane during the summer and early fall, that's just how it is. So if you're willing to deal with it a little - go for it. Montauk is a lot of fun.
