Am I overreacting??? Question for OOT family coming for birth

Does anyone have family that is flying in for the birth?

If so what are they doing for transportation?

My ILs mentioned flying in for the birth. If they do, then they will take a taxi to the hospital. But they will not have a car to get to the hospital each day.

I don't think they would rent a car either, they don't know their way around here and as it was, was afraid to drive down (without dragging my BIL) this weekend...And they have GPS.

Am I over reacting that they can't expect my DH to be their transporation?

Am I wrong to want him to be with me?

You are not wrong, while I loved having our parents around before and after the birth, they all had cars and were able to transport themselves about.

I agree with you 100%. I would want my DH with me too. I don't think you are over reacting at all. I can almost feel the anger I would have in that position.

I am not mad.... More shocked!

It's only a 9-10 hr drive to us and lord knows I won't be lucky enough to have that short of a labor.

I don't want visitors prior anyway, so I don't see the rush to fly down. Plus the baby is in the nursery 2 hours after birth.

So when my MIL said she has a ticket on stand-by, I was surprised and immediately thought, how will they get around, eat, etc. Plus, they usually stay at the guest sweet in our apartment complex, what if that is not available, now they have to search for a hotel?

This just stresses me out.
I am going to need to talk to my DH.

Thank goodness my side can handle things on their own!

When my parents came here they took a taxi to the hospital everyday and they stayed all day, so when my husband went home after the evening visiting hours, they left with him. My son was born at 9 pm, so on the night of the birth they all went home at about 1 am together. It worked out pretty well.

This was the least of our worries to be honest.

eta...and I think one or two times they took a taxi home also. If worst comes to the worst, they can taxi themselves home. No big deal.

That would def drive me nuts! DH needs to worry about you and baby...not about his parents!

I know that my parents will be flying in, but they are totally renting a hotel room, and a car as well. They will be bringing my dad's GPS so that I don't have to worry about them getting around town.

Re: Am I overreacting??? Question for OOT family coming for birth

my DH drove my mother to and from hospital each day. It worked out fine though...he left the hospital in the morning, went home, showered...posted pics online.

he would return with my mother.

at night, he would drive her back to my house...and then return to the hospital. he was able to bring things home and bring me what I needed at the hospital.

it was nice to have the downtime to myself. I usually made phonecalls during the time.
