Amazing - if you have a dog with anxiousness, fear, barking issues, etc. read this
I was reading on another forum about a "Thundershirt". I chuckled at first but the more I read, the more amazing it sounded.
In essence, when a dog is fearful or anxious, if you slip on this 'shirt' that applies gentle pressure to their body, 85% of over a 1,000 owners reported drastic results.
Baby swaddling is the same kind of theory, they say. To calm the nerves.
Someone on my other message board has a Lab with anxiety from car rides and thunderstorms, and they reported an immediate turnaround. Between that and the before and after videos, that's proof enough for me. Check it out: http://www.thundershirt.com/
We have been making strides on Ginger's separation anxiety and we're going to film her this weekend to see how it's going when we leave. Depending on what we see, we might add this to the mix.
I wouldn't solely rely on a shirt and stop desensitizing training but for those with dogs that are completely inconsolable during thunderstorms, this may be just the ticket!

OMG, that sounds very intersting. Both my dogs are anxious in different ways, I am curious to know how this works.

OMG! thanks for posting
you should change your title of this post to include trouble with non stop barking too! it seems like it really helps with that. I'm considering trying it for barking!!
ETA-if it doesn't work they will take it back!!

Re: Amazing - if you have a dog with anxiousness or fear, read this
We have a dog that was labeled as 'fearful' when we adopted her. Although she's gotten much better, she freaks during thunderstorms (which many dogs obviously do).
A few years back a friend of mine gave me a dog catalog (can't remember the name) and they sold something like this. It was expensive so instead I tried putting one of my old fitted shirts on her. It actually worked and she remained calmer than usual. Although it doesn't always work DH gets a kick out of our poor 60 lb dog walking around in a 'baby tee'. He says, she may still be scared, but at least she's well dressed.
ETA: I may look into this one since its reasonably priced.

Changed the title
At first, I was skeptical because it's just a simple concept. But seeing the results, and talking to people who have tried it with results too, I think it's legit.
It just goes to show you how clueless we can be about dog issues that it took so long to realize that a simple shirt can have drastic results.

they talked about these in a class I took about dogs adjusting to babies... they said it actually has the same affect as swaddling.

Any updates on how it works? Has anyone bought it? I would be interested in this for my two shih zu's who get major anxiety from thunderstorms.
