American Girl Doll - clothes & accessories
My cousin told me she is getting an American Girl doll for her daughter for Christmas (Which I think her daughter will outgrow very quickly - I think she's at or close to the age where she will not longer be interested in this, pretty quickly). When I asked what to get her daughter as a gift, she said to get her clothes and accessories for the doll. I see on Amazon they have clothes, etc that fit the doll, but are not authentic AmericanDoll apparel, but are much less expensive. So, for the amount of $$ I was planning on spending, I can either get a couple of outfits and some acceessories that are not "the real thing", or one outfit and an accessory or two, that is made by American Girl. What do you think is the best way to go - the real thing, but fewer items or less expensive but more?
TIA!

You know your little cousin better than we do, but I'd probably go for the no name brand clothes. I've gotten an outfit from Toys R Us (they fit American Girl dolls, but aren't American Girl brand) and the little one loved it- made me dress her doll up right then and there.

Target's line for 18 inch dolls, Our Generation, has some very, very nice things and are way less than the AG stuff. I bet the child won't know the difference. IMO the AG clothes are a little boring, but Target online had some really adorable things.

I think usually when kids are into AG, they want the real deal.

If the child is on the younger end of the spectrum for AG dolls 5-7 the Target or Amazon clothing is perfectly fine, but if the child is 8-13 the target AG doll age, I would get fewer real clothing.

Both of my girls have AG Dolls. They have authentic AG clothes and non. They dress their dolls based on the cuteness of the outfit not the name brand.
ETA-they are 5 and 12 yrs.

DD has both and honestly it was always based more on the cuteness of the outfit then anything. Michael's craft store has 18" doll cloyhes too, and then you can always get an AG craft kit they have and she can make an accessory. Then she will have a little of both!!

Didn't know they had crafts, too. this is great - I was looking for something else other than just the clothes. Thanks!

AC Moore also has clothes that fit the AG doll. DD has both AG and clothes from AC moore and Target. They also sell gift cards to the American Girl store, so you could just do that for whatever amount you want to spend.

Love the craft idea!
You can always ask the parent. I know I knew kids who were really on top of the "real" outfits and had to have them. Ridiculous, but it's part of the collecting

They can be a little pricey but you can use a coupon if they're regular price. And I believe Michael's take competitor coupons too. I also think AC Moore has the crafts.
