Amnio and lung maturity?
HI. I am looking for someone who may have had a similar situation as me. I have an anterior placenta previa. I have been hospitalized since Thanksgiving since I had some bleeding, lost mucus plug etc and have had on and off contractions. I am officially 36 weeks tomorrow. I had an amnio yesterday and the lung maturity came back as NOT mature. Has anyone had a 36 week result like that? I was supposed to be scheduled for a section tomorrow and now they are probably going to reschedule...I miss my 3 year old so much!!!!
anyone have experience with the lungs maturing? how long does it take to go from a 1.7 to a 2.0 on the l/s ratio test?
Any info would help...

Re: Amnio and lung maturity?
im not 100 percent, but i feel like MrsRivera mayve had this as well..i think its really normal for the babys lungs NOT to be developed yet all the way at that stage of the game..
thats why they say 37 weeks is best to deliver after..sorry youre going through this, ill keep you in my prayers :)

Re: Amnio and lung maturity?
Yes, I went through this about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
I had an amnio at 36 1/2 weeks to see if DD's lungs were mature. I have a ruptured disc in my back that has caused me severe pain since the 8th week of my pregnancy, but up until about 3 weeks ago, I was able to fight through it and manage it with conservative painkillers. 3 weeks ago, I'm not sure if I overdid it, or if something else happened, but I was in such severe pain that I literally didn't think I was going to make it. I had to go on more significant painkillers that aren't as safe for the baby. I wanted her out ASAP.
Unfortunately, at the time of my amnio, her lungs were NOT mature...I was 36 weeks and 4 days. I was actually very surprised by the result, but the perinatologist thinks it may have to do with the painkillers--the baby's lungs may not have matured as quickly due to my taking them, there's really no way to know.
In any event, I'm sorry to hear what you're going through and I truly hope you have a different result than I did. Lots of coming your way!

Re: Amnio and lung maturity?
I had an amnio at what we thought was 36 weeks + and when the amnio came back , it turned out I was actually 37 weeks 3 days (over a week further long then we thought) and his lungs were fully mature...
I had been on steroids the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy and I truly believe that had something to do with it...
If they knew they may be taking the baby early, why did they not do this with you? Can they give you a steroid shot now?

Re: Amnio and lung maturity?
My 36w2d amnio came back as not matured, and my 37w3d came back as matured. I also had a complete previa (not anterior) and I ended up going into labor (while we were doing the 2nd amnio!!) I did not need the steriod shots to deliver DS and he did not need to stay in the NICU. There is a direct correlation between previas and pre-term labor, so it is very important that the Drs check the baby's lungs.
Feel free to FM.
