Amnio in 9th Month
I was just wondering if anyone had to get an amnio towards the end and if so, why and did you go into labor from it.
Thanks

Re: Amnio in 9th Month
my friend did. They wanted to deliver her baby early (because he was estimated to be a big baby) and they did the amnio to determine if his lungs, etc were developed enough. It turns out they weren't and they made her wait a few more weeks before having a c-section. He really wasn't that big - only 8+ lbs, but she's very petite. I never heard of anyone doing that before her, but that's what she told me.
Oh and no she did not go into labor from it.

Re: Amnio in 9th Month
I got an amnio at 36w1d b/c I had a complete previa and would have a c-section the moment we determined that Baby G's lungs were mature. When I went that time the lungs were not mature, and the amnio was no problem. My Dr had me go to L & D the next day to be monitored b/c I felt weird, but he said it was just the muscle tensing from around the injection site.
I returned a week and one day later and was already in labor when I arrived.
The Dr. cannot confirm that the amnio the week prior is what set off labour, b/c most previa cases will deliver 2 - 3 weeks early.

Re: Amnio in 9th Month
A friend of mine had to have one at about 36 weeks. She was loosing amniotic fluid and they were checking to see if his lungs were developed enough for a c-section...which they were. It did not put her into labor.

My Two SIL's did and 2 of my friends. None of them went into labor from it and they all had it to check the babys lungs , all were due to have c/s's and the dr's wanted to be sure the babies were ready.

That is my situation exactly. If I want to have the c/s at 38 weeks, the doc said the hospital requires an amnio to be done to make sure the lungs are developed. He said it is a new rule of the hospital since January. Otherwise I will just have to wait another week. I am secretly hoping I go into labor on my own and then go from there.

This is exactly why I had to have the amnio. I had a complete previa, and since there is a risk of bleedout and early labour, my Dr wanted me to begin testing at 36.5 weeks. However, I had DS in May of 2007, and that was already hospital policy, and had been at Winthrop for a few years.

My sister did. She had it done to check the baby's lungs before they scheduiled her c-section at the end of the week that she had the amino done.

Re: Amnio in 9th Month
I did. I had mild preclampsia and was on bedrest. I was very upset over this because every day I sat home on bedrest was one less day I got to spend with my baby. (I only got the normal 12 weeks of FMLA). My dr was concerned that I was stressing myself out over this so she had me do an amnio to see if the lungs were ready so she could induce me at 36 weeks. The amnio went fine and the lungs were ready so I went in to be induced.
