AND the mother of the year award goes to.....
Yup - me!
Yesterday, we went to my cousin's for a Hannukah party. There were a ton of kids there ranging in age from 2 (Cailen) up to around six - mostly little boys....
They have a playroom downstairs, and of course everyone is running up and down stairs. We have stairs at home - in fact, we never even had gates on our stairs - ever. Cailen never went near them, and he learned how to walk up and down very carefully the past months or so...
So, stupid me - I was watching him walk down from the top of the stairs (for the 20th time). He was holding on, but all of a sudden he lost his footing, and for the 1st time in his life, tumbled ALL the way down the stairs
I have to say, it is the most horrific thing watching your child tumble down stairs - it was very fast and hard too
Of course, me being at the top, there was nothing I could do but run after him... STILL holding my red wine in my hand (and everyone noted after that I didn't spill a drop! )
He got up immediately screaming and crying. He iced his head, talked for about 15 minutes about it ('member mommy? 'member I fell down the stairs? Like I would forget!) And then was fine....
Needless to say, after that, he went to daddy when he wanted to go downstairs to hold his hand. Guess he didn't trust his mother, the wine-drinking lush, with stairs after that!

Both of my kids have taken tumbles down the stairs (DD when she was 3...after already going up and down the stairs MANY times in her young life). Fortunately both kids were unscathed, but I agree that it's the most terrifying feeling; seeing your child in danger and not being able to do anything about it. I cried both times it happened (harder than the kids were crying ). Unfortunately, it happens...it doesn't make you a bad mom at all

Liza I'm sorry Cailen fell down the stairs, but thanks for the reminder that even kids we think are proficient at stair climbing can sometimes fall.

Liza I'm sorry Cailen fell down the stairs, but thanks for the reminder that even kids we think are proficient at stair climbing can sometimes fall. It's when you are the most confident that it happens. Cailen is SUCH an agile kid, he rarely falls or hurts himself. The good thing about this is this: Since he never fell down stars, he never saw that it is something that could happen. It taught him to be more cautious!!!
